Why does....?

Postby Paige » Fri Mar 31, 2006 6:56 pm

Everyone think that they are always going to die? Or they hate their lives, and think all of their friends secretely hate them? My friend, Ashlee, she is always whining to me about how she thinks everyone secretely hates her. Which I don't. But I will, if she doesn't stop whining to me about it! I mean, she says her life SUCKS. But, in reality she is so well off. Her parents are the best. They care about her, and love her. So that's not an issue. And, also, she has an incredible boyfriend [i should know, he is my ex] So, I don't get it. She is always so d*mn insecure about everything and always always always fishing for compliments. She is never happy with herself... and it kind of makes people not want to hang out with her. Also, she is an amazing student. Everything is so awesome for her, and I don't even know why she won't realize it. I mean, sometimes I'm jealous of her.

So, what do I tell her to get her out of this funk?

Have you asked her why she thinks this?
It could be that as you said she's just fishing for compliments and reassurance... which measuredly isn't too bad... but excessively will mean she loses all her friends over time.

Alternatively she could be naturally paranoid, be it because of past experiences or just because she's like that, not too sound rude or anything.

And if she is excatly like me, she's going to realize that, it is so stupid. The world doesn't hate you. You just hate the world.

Maybe she thinks like I do. When ever I have a streak of great luck I freak out because I think that bad luck will follow. Maybe I'm stupid but..oh well this isn't about me. Try talking to her. Maybe something else is bugging her.

Next Japanese Holiday:

July/August 7, Star Festival (tanabata)

About: 7th day of the 7th month of the year, when, according to a Chinese legend, the two stars Altair and Vega, which are usually separated from each other by the milky way, are able to meet. Some celebrate it in July others in August. Tanabata is not a national holiday.

I simply hate people like this. They drive me insane. My suggestion: Tell her to buck the heck up and to see what's really going on around her.

well the fact that she is really well of might have to do with it, human nature does not allow for one to be completely content so you might get her to focus on something in her life that really is wrong (this is assuming it exists) if there is nothing get her to focus on collecting something, like baseball cards, or music, or books, or something else along those lines. ande of course it is due to some serious problem or past experience, she night have to see a councilor (or soul-healer is you have read "Will of the Empress", by Tamora Pierce) and of course she might just be naturally low in self confidence in that case don't give up but view things from another standpoint, a great reference to problems like these is, while it might seem geeky referencing two quotes in one post, Sean Coveys "Seven Habits for Highly Effective Teens".
A lot of member have sigs that say"I'm a boy", or "I'm a girl", I refuse to join this trend.
