Yeah, and as we know Odd has a very eclectic (translation: untracable!) background - he could be from any country!

As Matt Geczy himself put it - Odd is the child of the universe. ;)

He uses the Japanese word "Sayonara" at the end of the scene where Yumi/Odd catches him in his new "outfit". "Sayonara" is commonly thought to just mean "Goodbye" in Japanese, but I've heard that it's only used when one is not sure if you will ever see said person or people again (much like the French phrase, "A Dieu"). I remember hearing that "Ja ne" is a more informal goodbye in Japanese...but I'm not quite sure; most of this I only have learned from Rurouni Kenshin Otaku language guides, so it may or may not be reliable. But "Sayonara" is definitely a Japanese term, and Odd said it in "A Fine Mess".

Mmm.. as an emissary from UMSD, I'll just say that we came up with Odd being a New Zealander... well his family is from there at least. I think TB3 added to it and said his dad was in the military or something... (mostly cuz of Kiwi but w/e lol)

Yeah, Odd would be better at languages than Jeremie, being an artistic person who's probably oriented on the right side of his brain (like me :D). I think languages are over on that side.. not sure tho. Jer's definitely left-brained. (math, science..)

Left-brain is the creative side: left-brain, left-wing. That's since been proven wrong as such, but the distinction works just fine. Don't know about languages, except that sign is learned differently than, say, Afrikaaner or Swahili (verbal languages).

I thought we were talking about for Aelita and I was gonna say Odd>Jeremie, 'cuz Aelita needs support and Jeremie is too obsessive to offer much of it.

Yeah, you're right. "Ja ne" (and "mata ne") is a lot more informal than "sayonara". I take Japanese so yeah ^^

I was really surprised when Odd started babbling in Italian xD; Then when he spoke Chinese. I was like... dude, how many languages does this kid know? o_O; Muaha, he's like me, sucky at logical subjects but very good at languages and arts :D

I could picture them speaking in Japanese to eachother and the rest of the gang would get frustrated.

Odd wouldn't try anything though, not seriously. Never annoy the guy who operates the scanners!

Besides, Odd has his own problems...

Hadn't thought of that one. Now that Jeremie knows a bit more about materialization (w/ Aelita and all), he might be able to do something terrible to Odd, like, make him sprout a chest. Or, just do the old-fashioned Odd prank: steal his hair gel. Or, both! Then we see Ulrich's reaction.

Off or Odd?

Regardless, it is Italian. If I'm not mistaken, Jeremie is moping about it and Odd says something to the effect of

Siete realmente zoppi in italiano, il mio amico

which means, you're really lame in Italian, my friend (I used Babelfish free....might not be so good)

Really? I dont' think so since Yumi doesn't speak Japanese around the gang....Nor does she at home...But then again how will people who are watching it understand...Well in either case I don't see how Odd can learn Japanese just from hanging out with Yumi.
That's true. My mother and grandmother both speak Spanish all the time to each other, and all I know is from taking Spansh classes in school.
