lack of commonr sense leads to no tv

Postby Chad Rains » Thu Dec 22, 2005 9:18 pm

ok. I am REALLY pissed off now. because of the lack of common sense on the part of one of my brother's friends, I am now out a tv. let me try to explain the situation a little more:

the tv in my room, although not the greatest, it works. its your basic 19" CRT. anyways, over time, for whatever reason, the IR sensor has come loose from the circuit board so occasionally the remote refuses to work. and considering the fact that I often use it for the computer's tv out and the only way to switch to the video input is on the remote, the remote is of great use to me. anyways, I have found a solution to the problem which is to stick a small screwdrive in this one slot on the front of the tv and it pries the sensor enough to where it makes a connection and starts working again. so i have this yellow handle screwdriver hanging out of the tv.

anyways, for whatever f*cked up reason, my brother's friend decided he needed to pull the screwdriver out. this wasnt a problem (although I wish he would have asked first before doing so. would have eliminated this whole mess). the problem came when he decided to put the screwdrive back in when he was done. he just arbitrarily "threw" it in there and it must have hit a vital circuit because the whole power circuit in my room went out (the whole room runs under one GFCI outlet so when something causes a ground fault in the room, the breaker in that outlet cuts out. better then knocking out half the house and having to go flip a breaker in the basement). reset it and I come to find the tv is fried. wont turn on or anything.

so now I have my brother's little 13" tv sitting on my dresser in the meantime.

but my rant really is on the lack of common sense ive seen in people. I mean, the screwdriver has been in the tv for as long as I can remember, and he knew it. WHY he didnt have the common sense to figure that it was in there for a reason and leave it alone is beyond me.

Owie.
The closest thing that ever happened to me was when my *great* TV fried, and I'm stuck with the one from the kitchen.
But at least it can play this stoopid spongebob game on it.
But I'm sorry about your troubles.

Ouch. I hate when other people screw my stuff up, too.

Share my torture:
Once, my ignorant friend was having the time of his life pulling out and plugging in the A/V cords in my TV. He loosened up the circuit board of the A/V jacks so much that my sound went dead (I use my cable through a VCR that uses A/V input so I can videotape stuff, wish I had TiVo.) Since the A/V had no input for sound anymore, I was without sound on my TV for months. I finally found out how to fix it: Take the A/V cords, thread them through the holes in a pair of scissors, twist the scissors, and duct tape them to the side of the TV. Unfortunately this crapped out on me eventually, and I had to get a new TV.

Whoa...that story took a long time.

Vchat, if a electronic such as a TV or a monitor is broken do not stick a piece of metal in it (such as the screwdriver). TVs and monitors have large capacitors that can hold a vast amount of electricity. If that screwdriver hit one of the capacitors you would have more problems then just a non-functional television.
