This just in from the states: http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/10/baptist.climate/

So, major religious leaders are starting to realize that it's a good idea to preserve God's creation.

'bout time.

Shyeah!

It's kind of sad someone needs the Pope's permission to wake up about the environment.
I still think we should drill for oil in Alaska.

Moving, and changing the Current Events title to reflect the new event.

It's a start, I guess. Might make confessions a little tedious, though.

EDIT: Nevermind, I don't seem to have the power to merge topics. Maybe an admin can...

No idea what venial means, but hunting isn't a sin.

Still, I think it's stupid to have this one HUMAN pretend he's God's number two. History has shown that power corrupts, and, while not as powerful as it used to be, the Papacy is very powerful.

This is whole idea is kind of pointless, considering religeons themsleves are rather outdated. And science doesn't fall under Roman Catholicism anyways. Wasn't it a pope who said "The bible tells us how to get to heaven, not how the heavens go?" I find it a tad ironic that after hundreds of years supporting sciences, then banishing them, then

Besides, I thought there were ten commandments, written by God and delivered to Moses on two slabs or something... Was there some big thunderstorm in the middle of Europe that we didn't hear about? Hah, I'll bet that was global warming...

But I can see about genetic manipulations... They're in place for a reason. If someone has a birth defect, perhaps they should not be breeding?

Noth that being born with birth defects means you should die or anything... But how can you "go green" the natural way, then embrace synthetic genes?

And... Drug trafficing and social/economical injustinces are government, not religeon... And yes they are moral problems, but morals are all about your upbringing and individual experiences... not what someone says in Italy.

And as a note, Gaah, yeah Carth, we can only cut topics, not merge them... Actually, can you even do that at all?

I think PHPBB3 has merge. Don't know if 2 does, but it seems basic enough.

The "heavens" quote is attributed to Galileo.

Jesus summed the whole law thing up in two laws:
1. Love the Lord your God.
2. Love your neighbor as yourself.

Caring for the environment (as opposed to worshipping it) honors it's Creator, and is also considerate for the other people who have to use it.

As tangent said, it was Galileo. Still, the pope makes ethical boundaries for the catholics. fear the hat.

Yes, but you can extrapolate an awful lot from those commandments when it comes to science. Once again, the Pope is amking moral boundaries.

But I can see about genetic manipulations... They're in place for a reason. If someone has a birth defect, perhaps they should not be breeding?

Good point.

Once again, the Pope (what's his name anyway?) is in a position to do good, so he's setting moral boundaries.

I'll give anyone an imaginary nickel if they guess the Word of the Day!

So only now does someone in the church think it's a good idea to uh... I don't know, realize that we're screwing up the natural order? *shakes head*

Only now do the big leaders admit it. I'd think most evangelical youth have some sort of environmental inclinations.

Yes, that's true. It's just that it's wrong to take what somebody says over what God says.
