In late B.C. Greece, nobody knew about God yet, and yet they all believed there was a hell. Does that count as ignorance? o_O

Could you explain that a bit?

Whoops didn't see this until now. People ask the stars, the trees, the twigs, the pond scum, pretty much anything for help. Anything except God. One of the Ten commandments is "you shall have no other gods before me." Asking something that's not God is acting like the pond scum is a god.

no, it means Judaism eventually got a toehold in ancient Greece.

Well, technically, it's not like everyone does it.

I wasn't talking about everyone, just the people who consult astrology for their future and who read twigs for their fortune.

Hm...riddle me this, my friend. I read the horoscopes in the daily newspaper, laugh a bit, and then promptly forget about it. Is that wrong? :)

Well, that's their culture, and perhaps you could respect it a little more? It's justwho they are, and you do a million things a day that come from your culture.

That may very well be, but what I believe AngelBolt was getting at was to show some respect for other cultures and religions. I felt a little testy when you mentioned that spirit mediums received their power through the devil--I've never heard of any serious spirit medium saying they get their abilities from Satan. The only ones who you hear doing that are those stupid kids who deliberately do so just to strike out against society or something.

Nevertheless, I find astrology (and anything dealing with the supernatural) quite interesting, but I wouldn't exactly follow it myself. I've met one spirit medium before who really shocked me. It probably sounds like a load of crock, but anyways--she sat me down and pressed her index and middle finger perpendicular to my palm. I don't know if it was simply because my hands were restless or something, but it began to warm up and feel numb.

She mentioned that there was something bothering me about my grandmother. She was right; when I was much younger, she did get a little funny with me. She couldn't specify which grandmother (my mother's or my father's), or what she did to me, but she did pick something up. I was about 9 at the time or so; I was too afraid to tell my parents in fear of what kind of chaos it'd create between my parents, so I lied in case she told them, and told her nothing came to mind.

That's really it, and the only one I can personally attest to. Another time, she visited us personally. We mainly got in touch with her for my brother, but the "palm readings", if you will, was just something we did on the side when Chris wasn't ready. Nevertheless, she was with my mother, and told her that "a parade of angels" appeared. My mother said that when she put her hand up, it was very hot, but I guess she was too stunned to call me, so I can't vouch for that event personally. I do think it happened, though.

So. I don't think all spirit mediums use the devil, and they certainly are helpful. Solomon J. Wickey is a healer who do similar things. Google him and do a bit of research; they aren't making it up. Ever since we took Chris (who has autism) to Indiana to visit Solomon, Chris has improved tremendously. I'd be hard pressed to accept that he uses Satan for such a purpose, but then again, he might not fit all of the criteria for a spirit medium, and I really don't define him as one either.

Edit: And the only reason why I mentioned that bit about my grandmother was because, I felt, saying "She knew about private information" would weaken my entire post. I'm not trying to earn sympathy, but get the point across.

Yeah, exactly. You've got to remember, Christianity is just the same as they are, and none is superior to the others. If there is a god, I believe that's what he would want. He would not want anyone holding themselves higher than the rest.

Oh, cheesetoast, that came out wrong and I didn't realize it until I was halfway to a meeting I was going to. Anway, On the culture thing, you are absolutely right. i don't mean any disrespect to any other foreign ( to me) culture.

Now as for the religion bit: "I am the way, the truth, and the light. there is no other way to the Father except through me."-Jesus, Book of Matthew

Ah, well, okay then!

I know how you feel. Appoinments and meetings are killer.

Heee... cheesetoast...

I just think that the society as a whole isn't ready to accept anything entirely yet. we are not mature. We have a lot to catch up on.

But unfortunatly, I don't think that saying you're the only way to go is immediate reassurance. Companies do it all the time, and we criticize over that. And yet when someone said it two thousand years ago, then we believe it?

Heh, thank you for understanding.

The difference between the huge corporations and Jesus' statement is the use. Jesus didn't say that to only benefit himself, Jesus said the truth because He cares for us and wants us to live with him in paradise. Always has, always will.

The Bible says that spiritual powercomes from either Satan or God. Ak the mediums where there power comes from. Granted, I doubt they know they are using the power of Beelzebub (another name for Satan), but if it doesn't come from God (I.e: They don't pray, they use incantations, etc) It's from the devil. plain and simple.

As far as we know. Even though I'm a Christian, (Catholic at that) I believe that just because God didn't do it doesn't make it evil.

No, it doesn't. What makes it evil is that you are relying on demonic forces. I

I'm slightly offended, but too lazy to hold a grudge. No, I don't believe they all use Satan for power. They don't act Holier Than Thou, are humble people, and I've never seen anything negative come from their "incantations". Before we visited them (them being Solomon), my brother was very hard to handle, and was very sick (trouble breathing, thyroid issues, tons of things), but on the drive from Solomon's place (a modest little horse-ranch; he's Amish), Christopher's breathing improved dramatically. It's been a year and half since we visited them, and Chris has undoubtedly improved; he has matured to the point where we can leave him alone for extended periods of time, he can cook for himself now, and many of the other factors that once afflicted him have cleared up.

I can say, for a fact, that their incantation is not related to the devil, but is a prayer. Simply because he doesn't sit at his bedside praying for world hunger to be fixed, and is actually out there and healing thousands of people, makes him evil?

Spit.

Oh! It sounds more like a Faith Healer ( I highly doubt an Amish person would do anything REMOTELY satanic). I thought you meant something else. my apologies. (now were even lol. not that I was keeping a count...)

Ah. My mistake. Faith healer describes him well, yes. When I mentioned healer before, I wasn't associating it with the term "Faith Healer", which had escaped my mind until you just now mentioned it. I am still a bit...unsure about spirit mediums, though, as I don't think all of them use Satanic origins for their purposes.

However, I don't know for sure, and wouldn't care to personally find out. I'd like to think there are a few decent ones out there. The spirit medium we visited (not Solomon) didn't actually conjure spirits or anything, but I wouldn't call her a faith healer exactly. We could debate this back and forth, with no real answer, but, nevertheless, it's still kind of interesting.

Edited to quote your new edit; I have changed nothing else in my post, aside from the text inside the quotation box. Think I may have jumped the handle a bit, but I'm far too interested in this thread to leave it alone.
