I know I might get slammed for this but I want to talk about Christianity. Feel free to talk, just know that I'm a Christian.

I am also a Christian for what it's worth.

What exactly do you want to talk about?

Well, as for my walk... I'm not nearly as far as I would like. I've been dealing with some issues, but I am dealing with them now. And I finally feel like I'm going somewhere. It's a good feeling.

I used to be into it a few weeks ago, and I was just getting back into religeon. Unfortunately, I got a little disinterested when we started watching veggietales.

In senior high youth group.

And they were singing.

The senior high kids, not the chaperones.

Personally, I think its disrespectful discussing religion in a public message board.

Why? People don't have to talk if they don't want to.

If they try to convert you, then you can start running like hell. On a serious note, it can escalate to a flame war, but I don't think it will get that serious. They're just discussing Christianity (so far), and I don't see anything wrong with it.

I'm Christian. I dislike organized religion, and I dislike groups where people meet other followers of the same religion (seems kind of stupid, if you ask me). I don't go to church, pray at night, or say grace. I don't have a personal relationship with God just yet (having trouble accepting it, taking a philosophical approach at the moment), but I'd like to pursue that soon. I dislike fanatics that come with all religions, but some Christians seem especially pushy (Phelps family is one example).

So, yeah. I'm a Christian who doesn't care to associate with them. I don't think they're bad (even the ones that do annoy me), but I'd rather not get involved with that kind of stuff.

This is how you know someone is a Christian They:
(i) Have accepted Christ as their savior
(ii) Have Asked Jesus to clean away their sins
(iii) recognizes that Jesus died, was placed in a tomb (still dead), and rose back to life after three days.
(iv) Acknowledges that Jesus is part of the Holy Trinity ( the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).
(v) Lives within God's will.

*gasp* NEVER, EVER, did Veggietales, man. That's not cool. Veggietales rule!

...

Well, most of 'em anyway. ;)

I'm in to Jesus and all that jazz, but I do so hate it when people tell me to suck up all the bad crap in the world and offer it up, since Jesus died on the Cross and stuff. He did kinda have a choice you know, not me. *sigh* Trust me, guys, be glad I don't visit the rant thread to often. o.0
But yah, I try to go to church and everything like that. Try.

I can say I'm Christian, but my parents aren't and sometimes I get a little uncomfortable when talking about the things I learn at school around them. The only reason they sent me to a Christian school was because I'd get a good education not for the religion, not that I'm complaining :D.

I consider myself catholic. I was raised catholic. but I don't go to church much and I don't really know a lot about the bible. I got some REALLY smart friends though in that area and whenever I have a question they answer it pretty well.

Or screw that and if they say their Christian then they are.

I dissagree with that TPP, you can say you are a Christian, but untill you start acting like it, you won't be.

(example, if someone says they are a Christian, and then goes out and gets drunk, that person, CANNOT be a Christian)

But who is to judge who can be what?

And unfortunatly there is nothing in Christianity against the consumption of alcohol. Islam on the other hand...

Consumption yes. But there is a difference between Consuming alcohol, and getting drunk off of it.

And as for the Judge... That's kinda simple really. God. All you have to do is follow the Bible, just do (or don't do) what it says too (or not too) do.

Close but not quite. While yes our probbable creator is the end all be all judge when it comes to who we are, your forgetting one important other judge. Yourself. If you yourself vew yourself as a member of that religion, then you are.

That being said, Potter here brings up something that sickens me about religion. The Bible is said to be good. So people desire to listen to what the bible says to get into the good afterlife of heaven. Why isn't one can't be good for the sake of being good? Why do we need a religous text to tell us right from wrong instead of listening to whats in our heart? Why must we be promised a heaven or a hell? Would we still be good with out the promise of a heaven?

Things like that are why I'm a skeptic. Why I question.

(I'm a Christian. Baptist flavor, but denomination's unimportant.)

ThePepsiPiper wrote:Or screw that and if they say their Christian then they are.

The problem with that is, lots of people claim to be Christain without really knowing anything about Christianity. It seems like some people actually think, "I was born in America/Britain, of course I'm a Christian!". Is it any wonder that Christianity is most accused of hypocracy?

Would we still be good with out the promise of a heaven?

Since a true Christian has the spirit of Jesus in their heart, they should desire to do good simply because it is good. Of course, the fact that the flesh exists in a fallen (sinful) world means that one doesn't always suceed.
Following the commands in the Bible is an expression of one's salvation; one isn't saved by being good, since nobody on Earth can be perfect- the smallest amount of sin is still sin.

So the kindest soul would still be banished to the depths of Hell. mmmm yeah that makes so much sense....

Yes, you can be a judge to a point. But, just because someone can view themself as part of a Religion, unless that person can obey the rules of that Religion, they cannot be pert of it. For example, Just becuase I say that I have a million bucks, does that mean that I do? Unless I actually have that money in the bank, or in my pocket I don't have it.

please don't call me that, it sounds quite dissrespectful
You bring up a very good point here, we should be able to tell right from wrong on our own. But because we are human, we can't be perfect, or always know the right way to go. Thus, God gave us the Bible, that way it will help us learn the right way to go.
Imagine this, When you were a baby, did you know that if you touched a hot pan it would burn? No, you had to either touch it yourself to find out, or have your parents tell you repeatedly not to touch it.
Also, Heaven, and Hell, are the Ultamate reward, and punishment. those who obey the rules God has set out for us, get the reward of going to Heaven, those who dissobey, get the punishment of going to Hell (along with the Devil, and all of his other followers). For every action, there is either a reward, or a punishment. Just like now, if you don't do your homework, you get an F (I think, I've never been to schoo so I'm going by what I've heard) but if you do it, you get a passing grade (if you do it right that is)

please correct me if I'm wrong anywere in this post.

God gave us Jesus, who did some things and preached his stuff... then he left and his disciples hammered out the bible. And thats my other gripe right there, it's a book written by man. Disciples? sure but they where still, only human. If you believe to be better off financially better off then what you are, then you are. It's like saying your attractive, ect.
