Spam Bots on the Forum

My appologies for that. For some reason it said that there was "No specified post" and I had to re-enter it twice before it took, so that could be the cause.

^^; That's alright. It happens sometimes.

Um, the "newbiebot" in GD has been taken care of, and in order to get rid of this latest brand of "sex tape" spambots, I've put a block on any usernames starting with the word "sex"...

...Uhh, so guys, don't change your username to something starting with the word "sex"...since I'm not sure what that'll do. ;

Hope you guys don't mind that. ^^ But I figured it was better to do that than to keep letting those awful threads and spambots in. *sweatdrops*

Err...like I said...I'm not sure what it will do...it probably doesn't monitor usernames for those who are already "active members"...just those trying to join.

...But better safe than sorry...

...And he could always change it to "Smex1"?

If it's really a big issue to not be able to change names like that though, I'll just undo the "Disallow". ^^;

But do a complete wildcard wraparound with: *sex*.

Therefore, it will catch LookPornoSexy and the like.

Anyway, spambots have been cleaned out for the now, and *sex* has been added to the list of Disallowed UserNames.

It may be a bit extreme, but why not require new users to send a PM with their username and the words "I'm not a Spambot" (or something like that.) to an Admin before they can create their own thread?

They may not be, my friend, but they are a problem that we can do something about. And for some of us, who don't have programing skills, or art, or fanfics, or radio retellings (Stares at Gforce), it's something that we can do well and get excited about.
