I don't understand people who have prejudices. Before deciding to move to another country, remember that prejudices spawn from ignorance, and ignorant fools exist in every country, no matter where you go. Isn't it amazing how a fictional show like CL can bring together people from all different ages and from all parts of the world with diverse backgrounds, even while our respective governments bicker constantly? I look forward to the day when our generation inherits the political power. Some day we will all join hands at the United Nations HQ and sing Un Monde Sans Danger as global peace is made a reality.

Agreed; I don't think he meant anything by it, but better off without saying it. Though, I found the closing statement worse than the Jesus line. What do you mean "Nothing can be done to alleviate this cold world"? You can start doing things to help the world out; you may not make a global uprising on your own, but when you put it like that, pfft, well, what's the point of living if you can't do anything worthwhile? You can help out your neighbors, people at school, your workplace, and, if you want it enough, people on a bigger scale.

That's what I hate most about people. They ask and ask and ask about my heritage, repeatedly asking questions like "Do you like Chairman Mao?" and "Why are you communist?," yet they refuse to listen to my answer. It's not just being ignorant; they refuse to understand why the world works the way it does.

People are always associating me with the American Communist Party. I've repeatedly told people that I identify myself as a "Communist" not because I actually believe in communism, but because I support the Chinese Communist Party. Yet they refuse to listen and remember the answers to the very questions that they ask.

I agree, Lyoko Soldier, but I usually can't control my anger and hatred. My mother tells me that the Americans can say what they want about us Chinese, but I have to remember that every Chinese immigrant that came here left home with at least a masters degree, many of them with Ph.D's, and high GPA's.

aww chosen one its not that bad. as far as the communism whatnot stuff goes I don't know what that is. I think its some kinda politics which I know nothing about you'll have to talk to David the next time you see him online because the only way he could know more about politics is if he were in politics anyway....uh...what was I getting at...oh yea
its not that bad you get picked on in school. it happens to everyone in every country out there. truth is kids are immature they will always look for something to pick on other people for. even if you were all chinese ore something theyd pick on you because your smart. or wear glasses. or I don't know whats you do but anyway. I went through the same thing. I tried telling people I was hawaiian and they all picked on me and asked me to hula dance all the time. which I can but I knew they were making fun of me. then I tried telling them I was black and the two or three like REALLY racist people in the school gave me a real hard time.
it happened to David because he was so skinny all his life.
and it happened to Nick because hes always been really big in fact he was fat when I met him.
it sucks that everyone picks on everyone but thats the simple truth. it sucks that it is and its stupid that it is. but if its anything ive learned you cant change things like that its impossible. and its not any better here there ore anywhere.

Hate leads to the Dark Side. ...Sorry, I can't pass up a chance to relate something to Star Wars, it's my nature. Seriously though, you shouldn't hate them. That only adds to your own stress. If you feed that hate you will eventually lose it. I came very close to it once, but managed to restrain myself long enough for the teacher to come along. And going GTA on someone's face is generally frowned upon in modern society. Instead, you should have sympathy for them because they are intolerant, ignorant stereotypes. It's people like them that make "American" synonymous with "idiot". Fools like them quickly discover that they have no place in modern society and end up either maturing quickly or working a dead-end job the rest of their lives. Let them make fools of themselves, and don't let their bullying get to you.

You know they are stupids, and that what they say to make fun of you has no intelligence or merit behind it, so don't give it any power rewarding them with an emotional reaction. Nosce te ipsum - Know thyself. You KNOW that any cruel things they say about you are untrue. Therefore, there is no reason to hate them for what they say to you. They are simply projecting all of their self-hatred on to others because subconsciously they know they are dumb dumbs. Psychological studies have proven this. Rather pathetic, isn't it?

It will become easier to ignore them as the years go by. From the time I was in third grade everyone picked on me and were as cruel and sadistic as Lucifer himself because I wore glasses and was academically inclined. It was the same in every grade up to eighth. I used to be the most sensitive guy on the planet (thanks to a mother who, with well meaning but fallacious intentions, sheltered me from everything), but now, after years of nightmare-inducing torment, I have the patience and temperament of a Bhudist Monk. I can still be sensitive towards others, but nothing gets past my shields anymore because I know who I am and I like me.

Next time someone tries to get you down by saying something idiotic so they can impress their friends, just stare straight at them, give them a funny look as if they had a mental problem (smile if you can), and say something like, "Your ignorance must know no bounds. I can actually feel my brain cells dying just from being near you." Then go back to whatever it was you were doing and act as if you didn't have a care in the world. It makes you look like a genius and makes them look like an idiot. Works every time. I'm 16 and in 11th grade now, and there is still a kid in my class who pulls crap like that sometimes. He always ends up looking like a fool to everyone around him. Now all the pretty girls really like Zex Marquise, the self-proclaimed nerd and "weird guy" and hate the stupid bully who gets dumber every day. Tough it out until you reach a grade where people are more mature and understanding, and you'll find your place in this crazy country. Just make sure you don't isolate yourself from everyone because of the bullies. That's letting them win. Good luck with the monkey-people, and remember, there are at least a few of us higher thinkers left in America. Even if our president continues to pronounce "nuclear" as "nucular".

Communism: An economic theory which stresses that the control of the means of producing economic goods in a society should reside in the hands of those who invest their labor for production. In its ideal form, social classes cease to exist, there is no coercive governmental structures, and everyone lives in abundance without supervision from a ruling class.

In other words, communism, done right, would be a utopia, a perfect society, like Star Trek's Federation. The problem is that all people have character flaws and are always at risk of being corrupted by power. When communism takes on the form of a dictatorship, it becomes prone to corruption. Even if the first three guys in power are benevolent people who live only to serve their countrymen, eventually someone corrupt always ends up in power, or is corrupted after they have been elected. With their power over the common people, the communist system quickly degrades into oppression.

Why do you think that evil conglomerate Wal*Mart always has low prices? Because they get all of their products made in sweat shops in third world countries under communist rule where people have had most of their civil rights taken away and only get paid 25 cents an hour. North Korea-communist. Hardly anyone there knows what's going on in the world outside of North Korea because the media is censored by the government, Fahrenheit 451-style. I'm not making this up or basing it off of opinion. I just watch the news and read alot.

I wish I could say, "We don't have problems like that in America! Yay America! Wee!" But, unfortunately, that is not true. You just don't see it because it is hidden from the general public. What is a surefire way to guarantee people won't revolt against your oppression? Make them believe that they are free. It's just like Matrix. The illusion of freedom is but another system of control. Sure you can leave the country, and you have free speech, but start to dig deeper into the shady workings behind everything and make yourself a real thorn in the gov.'s side, and see what happens. Our government, which is supposed to embody and enforce all of the ideals and values we as Americans hold dear, has plenty of its own corruption. It's all about who controls the money now. Using national security as a good excuse, the government now has all sorts of monitoring systems set up throughout the country. With advancement in technology, it's only natural. It may be necessary to protect us now, but totalitarianism is only one short step away from where we are now.

(Basically, financial dealings)

Continuing in an even more chilling vein, he wrote: "When you carefully consider FOIA requests and decide to withhold records, in whole or in part, you can be assured that the Department of Justice will defend your decisions unless they lack a sound legal basis or present an unwarranted risk of adverse impact on the ability of other agencies to protect other important records."

Attorney General Ashcroft's actions to derail the FOIA under cover of war were soon followed by an executive order by President Bush on November 1, 2001, that allows him to seal all presidential records since 1980, despite laws that require such records to be made available after twelve years.

What are they hiding? And past experience suggests that looking under these rocks won't yield pleasant surprises.

Even though I'm an American by birth (born in the Midwest, and both sides of my family have lived in this country for generations), I can sympathize with this. When I was growing up, I was a misfit. Highly intelligent, wore thick glasses, and had a couple of unsavory bad habits. I had to deal with horrible teasing from the so-called "normal" kids because of those things. It messed me up inside in a lot of ways that took me a long time to grow out of, and in some ways I'm still recovering from all that (even more than a decade after the fact).

It isn't so much because of where you came from, it's because you're different than "they" are. You stand out from the crowd, and because of that, they feel threatened. Most likely they don't even realize it, at least in the sense of why they're doing it. They just know that you're not the same as them, and thus you're a "safe" target to tease.

There are several things I would suggest you try. First off, don't let it show that they're getting to you. If they realize that something bothers you, they'll hit you with it over and over again. Second, speak with the teachers (and if necessary, go higher up). Teachers aren't omniscient, and they may not really even realize that what these students are doing bothers you. If they're good teachers, they'll put a stop to it. Of course, that may lead to its own problems (such as being ostracized by your peers), but it's probably better than being teased all the time over something you have no control over, your nationality.

I can totally feel you. I grew up Asian in the South and I was teased... a lot. But I wasn't teased by everyone and I don't plan on movin from the America. I'm a very happily military wife and my husband fights to protect this country. It would be a slap in his face if I told him I wanted to move! I'm talking really bad stuff, like the time some guy spit in my hair, all the 'Asian gibberish' I've heard, and constantly being asked if I know martial arts. But the difference between over 15 years ago and now is how seriously schools will take this if you tell them. I might be the first to say this but you can't ignore it because it won't go away until you transfer out of this class or you alert someone. Silence can mean acceptance. I still get discriminated against, even by my fellow Asians where I'm at but I always say or do something (real slick like, though, lol).

Absolutely tell your teachers. It doesn't matter if the kids think this bothers you because.. it does! If your teacher doesn't care, tell your principle. If your principle doesn't care, tell your parents. Things like this can quickly grow into more serious matters... people die of hate crimes.

As for the Communism, I agree that it's a good idea but it doesn't work. But if you support the Chinese Communism Party, that's great! But I wouldn't talk about it openly. It's very easy to assume that since you support the Chinese Communist party that you'd support Communism in general. I wouldn't tell a lot of people that, especially since we live in a Democratic soceity. Many don't and won't understand where you're coming from. The old 'Commiez!" steriotype is still around today, and with all the wars and fights fought because of the clash between Communism and Democracy, it can be a sensitive topic (especially if someone's family member was killed in one of the battles).

Lastly, before hopping on a place and moving to Japan, I'd do some research first I have a friend living there right now because he's participating in the JET program. I would suggest doing something like that before moving there permanetly based on things you've 'heard'. He's told me that Japan is a really xenophobic place. But he's a very open guy who is super crazy, aloof, and almost invincible (lol).

But yeah, I'm a junior right now in high school, and the discrimination problem is practically nonexistent. I would just hold out 'til then if I were you. Don't forget that if you leave America, with all it's faults, you're still leaving the protection of it's legal system and government. I'm the last person you need to tell that it isn't perfect, but it sure is a lot better that most everywhere else. Now if we could just learn from the French's medical insurance program and government. In America, people are afraid of the government. In France, the government is afraid of the people. I have lived in Japan in the past and although it is a xenophobic place, that is a result of a hundred years of government propaganda. (In an attempt to strengthen the country, the Japanese government converted all schools to military-style academies and all Japanese were taught to think with anti-Chinese sentiment.) However, regardless, the Japanese these days have always been kind and respectful, and I honestly believe that living in Japan will be better for me because of personal reasons.

You have no idea… If I were to leave America now, remember that I'd be leaving George Bush. Nobody comes to America for legal protection unless they are refugees or something. Legal protection is not something I'm worried about.

Yes, that would be great! I agree with you. Hopefully one day the world can build on that! Although you know a great deal on that, your classmates, the one who tease you, probably don't get that.... actually, a lot of people don't understand Communism because all they have lived in (and will probbably only live in) a Democratic society all their lives.

I can't really say much about Communism and if it works or not because only my parents have lived under it, and they moved to America to escape it. So I haven't experienced it first-hand, so you probably know better than me

I'm sorry you had to go through something like that. I regret to inform you that, even though I don't quite know why, America has more than its fair share of people who will either act openly xenophobic or pretend to "accept" you while really thinking very little of you. However, (and I'm sure you've heard all this before) there are a good number of folks out there who sincerely don't care where you're from or what you look like when judging your character. You know what I say? Life is blind to nationality and every other aspect that is usually grounds for discrimination, and would treat us all just as badly. I really wouldn't want to make problems even worse for somebody else.

Hello; I'm sorry if I'm necroposting and such but I can't help reading the entire thread. I'm sorry that you're gravely facing discrimination harshly. You'll have to keep in mind though that there are still Americans in general who are still ignorant, regardless of the changes in time.

Discrimination based on race, religious/political beliefs, gender, age, and such is also against the law (federal law), but sadly, not everyone cares about the law.

I faced discrimination too when my family and I immigrated to the U.S. at age 10 (I'm Filipino), but it was a different kind of discrimination. I was harshly discriminated by other Filipinos--- American-born Filipinos that is--- calling me the ugly term of "FOB" ("fresh off the boat") because I couldn't speak English well or that I spoke a fair amount of English with a Filipino accent (I admit the accent's gone but I still tend to stick to my origin). But what's amazing though is that the school I went to (I live in California) is very united when it comes to other races. I made friends w/ non-Filipinos (mostly white and other Asians, some black, some Latino) and stuck w/ them. But as I continue on during that period I still faced discrimination from American-born Filipinos, either discrimination in general or calling me a "traitor" for "not hanging out" with other Filipinos. I don't get it.

Anyway, though my experience isn't similar as yours, it's the same in general. Sadly discrimination is everywhere, not just America. I wouldn't be surprised if Canada or UK or even Japan (yes, even Japan has discrimination... I've already seen it just by watching a good amount of Japanese movies and TV shows) still have discrimination issues. But like everyone said, you're not alone, and there are others who care more about how you are as a person than your background origins and beliefs.

What?! That's terrible! How can Filipinos discriminate on other Filipinos simply for being Filipino?

Japan may be the most xenophobic non-racist country in the world. (i.e. They are as xenophobic as you can get yet without actually being a bad place to live.) But honestly, I'm going there to escape. I'll still have this problem, but I feel that in Japan I might be able to deal with it better and live a better life.

But… It's so frustrating that these guys don't stop. Every day they jabber on, yelling in class, arguing with the teacher, and then Uncle Tomming when they're about to get in trouble… It's difficult to withstand the continuous mockery and immaturity. Every day, they give me a headache… My god, they're annoying.
