Marching Band- songs, memeries, and plain good fun...

Hey, it's little ol' me again...I've noticed that a fair amount of people here are in, or have been in, some type of marching band. Since I"m a proud bandgeek myself, I decied to start this, just for fun. Just to share your memires of band, ideas for cool shows, or list the things that makes marching band rock.
Oh, and just for a get-to-know-you thing, state how many years you've been in band, and what you've played.

5 Years from 3th grade 8th grade. I played Clarinet.

What I remember is that when we first started playing higher key notes I thought it was someone playing a violin lmao.

In band practice I met one of my closest friends, in a very odd way. -.-

My 8th grade band teacher Mr. Fortier used to raise his hand sometimes and me and my other friend would laugh because it looked like he was being Superman.

My Female Band teacher (Whos' name is so hard to type) used to use a pushing movement with her hand while directing. It looked like she was pushing something invisable but it was too funny.

Another band teacher used to say to "Open your throat so you can talk like the Terminator. It will increase your air input". I just laughed when he would talk like that.

Our band starts their program on sixth grade. I have always played trumpet,. Last year's Marching show was entitled "Mission to Mars" and used "Mars" "Major Tom" and "Space Oddity"

This year the show is entitled "Ride". We start out with "YYZ" and then "The Race" "Pit Stop" (A Percussion feature) "The Crash" "The Memorial", and "The Finish

I've been in band for... um... wow. Five years. I've only been in a proper marching one for two, though (when I transferred to my high school; we didn't have enough people at my private school).

I played various percussion instruments my first year (read: whatever nobody better was playing), organ for two years after that, and now I'm on cymbals/bells (*try* saying that out loud).

I love band. All of my friends are in it. Besides, it's a publicly acceptable excuse to look exactly like everyone else and bang things with sticks!

No offense. xD; But like practically EVERYONE I KNOW is in some type of band-ish thing. So I get to hear all sorts of bandgeek jargon like, 24/7. xD;;

Accually, this is my first of (hopefully) four years of marching band.

It's awesome. We're doing a "Peanuts" theme.

I've been a baritone player for 3 1/2 years now. LOW BRASS KICKS...well, you know...

I am a freshman and I'm in the marching band. Our show is "Legacy of a Soldier" and we play songs from several different time periods to represent the advancing of several generations of soldiers. There's this awesome drum feature called "Aerial Attack" that represents a gigantic helicopter attack and every time the bass drums hit the stands shake! Our section leader is AWESOME. During practice one day, the director says "You know, you Seniors and Juniors are being outmarched by the Freshman. You should be lightyears ahead!!!" to which the section leader replies... "Going where no band has ever gone before..." And then the director gets really mad and yells at him.

Our band director is an idiot. He's brilliant when it comes to music, but he got a microphone this year, and I think he's drunk on it... whenever we do our halftime performances, he gets too close to the speakers and we end up with this "Beam me up Scotty" noise... He's learned how to avoid it now, but it's really distracting to hear the bass drum twice.

And he keeps lecturing me to buy a set of mallets... even though the package is sixty-seven bucks. Yeah. I've got *that* lying around in my gym locker.

Ha. Marching Band is like the best EVERRR.

This year we are doing a show from Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine.

It's great. My band director is a super softie and can't stay mad very long, he's brilliant with music, but he's about to have his first baby right now, so he's like really nervous and working us hard... and its kind of funny/sad to watch him stress out so much. I've been playing clarinet since 5th grade.

I love marching band, if you're not in it, I suggest you join it, it's a way fun experience.

I can play "Simple and Clean" on a guitar Thats about it. I want to learn other songs but I keep forgetting to try.
I remember a couple of funny stories. One starts way way way back in the day when my friend David wanted to be a rapper. But David doesnt have a very big immagination so he like cant write songs at all. Then 1 day about 4 months ago...those days came up in a conversation and just to tick David off for the fun of it my friend Nick started rapping. we had no idea he could do that. Nick is the last person youd expect to be able to write a song especially one like that. Mine and Davids jaws hit the ground in amazement. Then heres the funniest part. He gets done with that song and is all like "yo I said it! Im Brian Brendon of California! What are you going to do about it!" We all just started busting out laughing rolling on the ground my sides hurt soo much from laughing that hard. that was the coolest.

OMFG, WE GOT FIRST PLACE!!!!!!

w00t!

OMG, we beat Central! Our marching band hasn't won a single thing in the past three years. And last night, WE WON FOUR!
We won in all four areas!

1. GE (general effect)
2. Marching
3. Music
4. Overall

It was awesome. AWESOME!

We only got a 57.2 out of 100, but for a first preformance in a Div. I grouping, it was awesome.
