That's a techy subject - many have actually tried to apply the 'Princess' concept and taken it too far - stating the concept of 'The Lyokan Monarchy' as fact, which it isn't.
Aelita's new ability is quite cool in the new season, but aside from their appearance are no different to lazer arrows, samurai katanas or tessen fans - please trust me on this, they are in no way 'magical'.
Code Lyoko is a show about Science-Fiction and normal people not Elf-Princesses and jaded concepts like Magic and Destiny.
TB3 wrote:I rationalise it as this:
Magic and Fantasy are only used in the imagery i.e. the Lyoko outifts and style of their abilities - as the Garage Kids press release put it - 'the imagery and poetry of Japanese anime'
That imagery aside, the show is grounded firmly in reality - in fact one of LTT's discoveries (which we passed onto Jerome - who is a major sci-fi fan) was that everything in the show that is different to our world (with the exception of the existance of Kadic and the kids etc), boils down to two inventions/discoveries Franz Hopper had to make - and then everything fantastical flows from those discoveries.

Oh, you're no fun...
Akito wrote:Well, TB3 stated an excellent point. The fantasy in Code LYOKO does not refer to Fairly Tale-style fantasy, consisting of those you see being arrested in Shrek. Therefore, the term "princess" of lyoko is otherwise meaningless.
Lyoko is a virtual world that supposedly might attempt to create virtual concepts of magic and such. But only in Lyoko, not on Earth. So it's not really "magic."

You got me there but I didn't mean Aelita is literally the Princess of Lyoko, I'm saying that in a non-literal way after Franz did say he and Aelita are the absolute "Masters of Lyoko."
Did this person happen to be a female OC?TB3 wrote:In one story, a fourth scanner 'magically' appaeared out of nowhere because it was someone's 'destiny' to join the group.
Noobs like things like that, FF.net is infested with that. They'll prefer easy explanations like magic (which I'm not very fond of myself, FYI) then more complex explanations like science and technology.TB3 wrote:The frustrating thing I find is that so many people buy into this, and also that the <b>'truth' is far more wonderful and fantastical than pulling 'magic' out of the hat to explain everything away</b> - that Franz developed the tech under a mysterious organisation, betrayed them, and then spent seven years writing the software to defeat them, having also invented the supercomputer, scanners and discovered time-travel along the way.
