Welcome to Lyoko Freak Wiki!

This page will be here temporarily until the wiki is in such a state that we can officially unveil it to the general public.

What is this?

This is the new Lyoko Freak wiki, a repository for Code Lyoko and the fanbase surrounding it. We're going to provide information about the show to the public, much like the main site did in years past. The advantage of using a wiki, however, is that updating the content can be done by any member of Lyoko Freak, whereas with the old site content updates were done by people with FTP access (essentially, Erynn, Lyoko Computer, nhjm49, and wartonchan). This method allows for content to be vetted if incorrect, it allows for content to be added as we discover it, and so much more.

Why do we suddenly have a wiki? Why do we need it?

TheLQ on the forums was wondering this, and it's a great question. With other wikis like Code Lyoko Wikia, why do we want/need a Lyoko Freak Wiki?

  • Existing content - If you haven't romped around the main site in recent times, we have a large amount of legacy content that we might want to archive as well as the entirety of Lyoko Freaker's Fanfiction. While we could remake the main site to bring it all up to date, look at the current update frequency. I'm probably not going to do much better than my predecessors. On the other hand, a wiki can be updated by anyone, and can be edited to include any type of content we want.
  • We have a quality community behind us - The problem with public wikis is that anyone can edit it. The problem with the Code Lyoko Wikia is that the quality is too mixed. Our advantage is that we have some insider knowledge about the show that other fanbases do not have. Creating a new wiki with quality, non-biased information would be easier than, say, raiding the Wikia, finding everything that is subpar, and revamping it to our standards.
  • We can focus a lot on the fanbase as well - What information the other wiki has on the periphery fanbase is extremely lacking, at best. I mean, we don't even have a page there! Meanwhile, we have users coming in from cl.fr, CL Evolved, Xana's Lair, Tumblr, Reddit, and more, and there's a veritable wealth of user created content that nothing else even begins to cover.
  • We have a reputation behind us - While not so much in recent times, we do have a reputation within the community. If I'm not mistaken, we're one of the oldest CL fanbases on the Internet, which gives us a distinction among the other communities. We can use this name to help deliver quality content to our users.

How am I suddenly logged into the wiki? I didn't create a user account on here!

This wiki uses the forum for user authentication. If a user is logged in on the forum, they should be logged in on the wiki. Logging in and signing out should kick the user to the forum for authentication, and return them back here. I'm making edits here and there on both the wiki and the forum so the process will be more seamless; any very temporary unexplained downtime on either service might be attributed to that.

Where's the content?

We haven't created it yet. This is going to be an undertaking that might take a lot of work, so figuring out how to organize our efforts would be an excellent place to start. I'll propose a starting point for getting the wiki up and running in a basic form, and from there we can flesh out the remaining sections of the wiki to become more comprehensive.

Lyoko Freak is, at its most basic form, a website for Code Lyoko. As such, the wiki should be dedicated to providing information about Code Lyoko. To roll out the wiki, we should do it in phases. Phase 1 would be gathering the essential data in a basic form, that way we have a framework to build off of. Phase 2 would put much more content in, introduce new, more detailed information, and expand upon the information introduced in Phase 1. Phase 3 would then finish out all of the missing innformation.

Phase 1 should start with, at the very minimum, is creating a directory of the seasons and episodes (possibly with basic descriptions of the episode for quick browsing). Think of a standard Wikipedia episode list; we would want the directories to be in that same format. Concurrently, we would also need character bio pages for all of the main cast and important secondary characters. Finally, we would also need pages on the important and common locations in the show, like the school, the factory, Lyoko, and whatnot.

Phase 2 should then focus on fleshing out much more detail about the show. Instead of brief episode synopses on the season pages, individual episode pages should be written with more in-depth information on that episode. Character bios should be written for the secondary characters who don't get get as much attention in the series, as well as location pages for the less traveled to areas of the worlds. It might also be a good idea to begin writeups on the different areas of the fandom, such as good ol' Lyoko Freak, CL Evolved, cl.fr, Reddit, et al. Fan lore also will come in during this phase (fan fiction, popularly accepted conjecture to explain the unexplained, and more).

Phase 3 should finalize the content additions by providing in depth information on the less important aspects of the show and the tertiary aspects of the fandom. This would include detailed information on the background characters, smaller or dead fan sites, and less prominent aspects of fan lore.

When will this actually become something more than nothing?

Gradually, I'm working on the base content for Phase 1. Episodes of Evolution are going to have full in-depth synopses, images, and (when made publicly available) high quality scripts made available by Team Subsonics. Episodes of the original series, for now, will have basic summaries of the plots and maybe a few pictures or so. When Phase 1 is complete to a sufficient degree (I'm hoping by the end of January 2013, but this might be a little unrealistic), I will begin heavily promoting both the forums and the wiki on Reddit's /r/CodeLyoko, Tumblr, YouTube, Facebook, and at some point, possibly Twitter (I really don't like using Twitter, so if anyone's an avid tweeter then be my guest to be our leg in that area of the Internet).

Nothing has really happened in terms of the wiki recently, is this an orphaned project?

Not in the least. I've been inundated by work and now school, as well as a myriad of other personal projects. In addition, as I am oft to do, my focus on the site has shifted away from the wiki for the time being to performing triage on the old main site and recoding it. The wiki will be properly developed in due time.
