Dennis Ritchie, co-creator of C and UNIX died two days ago at the age of 70.

Definitely more important that Steve Jobs. It's a pity he had much less coverage.

The impact of C is hard to measure... it's so ubiquitous.

Even the "higher-level" languages that people like to use today and mock C from usually have the low-level components written in C.

(Not that C is really that much of a pain- once you really grasp how a computer fundementally works, it's quite natural. And you can get quite high-level if you put a little thought into structuring your program right, which you should be doing anyways.)
