So. Has it ruined your life yet?

For those who somehow missed it, a "trope" is a narrative device/convention.
For instance...

The Knight In Shining Armor
Three contrasting main characters.
Just call 555-0123
Wars against aliens.
Mall Santas. Just... Mall Santas.
Those video-game enemies that split up upon defeat.
Perpetually supplied villains.
Helicopters as death traps.
Two groups of people having the exact same conversation.

I love that site. I can get and have gotten lost on it for hours on end. I contribute a lot...just not usually logged in, and I'm not in the community much. But seriously, it's the most amazing thing that's happened to me since sliced bread, LF, and existence itself.

I'd post my favorite articles, but it's late. I'll do it in the morning. But, yes, just in case you were wondering, here it is.

And there's always filling in examples; Code Lyoko and VeggieTales could use some love.

Sorry to bring this thread up so late but I just started reading this site extensively. Let me tell you, this thing is just absolute gold as now I'm able to put into words the well established narrative and character trends I've seen on TV. After a few months of lurking I finally decided to launch a trope of my own and need help collecting examples of it. I've already done the necessary research and all that jazz so you don't have to worry about it overlapping with any pre-existing tropes.

So my fellow LF Tropes, please help one of your brethren out and check out my potential trope. here

...bah, LF mentions on the CL page are nothing. Check the troper tales page for perverse sexual lust. (PSL) Somewhere near the bottom you'll learn something more than a little bit interesting about one of our members regarding a certain pink-haired prepubescent child prodigy, but I bet it's nothing you didn't know already. Besides, I could have a PSL troper tales page all for myself, so I'm really not one to judge.

I've been considering becoming an editor there and condemning Rudy Tabooty as a Canon Stu.

I'll probably come through with this and actually become a Troper (the very word fills me with joy!) but I need to know some things first. Do you have to personally know every trope you mention for an example, or is there some kind of "pool list" that you get to pick from? Is it easy to create / edit articles, and by this I mean is there a lot of trudging through many pages in order to incorporate a trope and its relation to the subject matter? I ask this because I've never contributed to a wiki and my computer is old, slow, and not able to handle many sudden changes without glitching up.

There are a lot of tropes, so there's no "pool list" per se; Tropes of Legend lists some of the more common ones, though.

Editing articles is easy enough; creating articles is only a little bit trickier. Adding links (aka "wicks") to a page takes more work, but remember that you're likely not the only person doing that.

Quick question, has anyone here on LF actually successfully launched a trope page or a series page, or do you mainly edit existing pages?

I've launched Clock Tower, Strapped To An Operating Table, Lack Of Visible Arms, and Serendipitous Symphony. Naturally, they've since been greatly expanded by other Tropers.

I've been too busy to head to You Know That Thing Where for a while, though.

I think I made the Series page for Eureka, but I forget.
