Since the Same-Sex Marriage thread is turning into the rant about America Thread, and I don't want to get on any thinner ice with the staff, but this is a subject worth discussing, this is teh thread for it.

How do you think the United States is doing as of near the end of 2007?

Gas prices are becoming so high that soon they will collapse, ruining the entire industrial and travel business industries, not to mention countless others. The result will be another Great Depression.

I think I read a prediction somewhere that life as we know it would collapse by 2011. I certainly hope not. That's my highschool graduation year. D:

What America needs is INTELLIGENCE. Srsly. So many unsmart people making what seem to be purposefully unsmart decisions for selfish reasons. (Sometimes, I wonder if some people were raised with inverse values, and then that's how this all came to be.)

As I sit in my computer chair, I'm okay. But I almost have a sense of a downward spiral going in my head.

December 21st, 2012, to be precise. I believe there are quite a few points that support this date--the Mayan calendar is one that I know of. Personally, I think it's nothing; humans tend to do everything within their power to stay alive. Why should anything short of Armageddon stop us?

Anyways, yeah, we're already in bad shape, but until our lives are at immediate stake, it's no big deal.

Oh, shut up. Fail/phail stopped being funny the moment people discovered f can be replaced with ph.

I was trying to tie my last statement with my previous paragraph. I agree with the idea that people have to fix everything themselves. I was referring to the government when I said "it's no big deal". Think about it: the pharmaceutical company is corrupted, sticking people on these chain-reaction drugs, but until a vast majority of people start dying, to the government, it's no big deal.

Eh... people have been predicting doom for millenia now. Sure, eventually somebody's bound to be right, but don't consign yourself to failure.

Though if Hillary wins... (I kid! I kid!) (Or maybe I kid about kidding...) (...anywho, if I'm not mistaken, I can vote in the primary next year! I like Huckabee.)
(yeah, the cool links in my old sig died. :( A few nerdy newish projects are here. )

Actually the Mayan calender doesn't say the world ends on that date. It doesn't say anything at all. It could very well be something GOOD that happens. It could also be that nothing happens.

People have been predicting that since the BCE's. The thought that it's going to occur any time soon is laughable.

Hmm....lets look at the signs of the times shall we?

There will be False Christs; wars and rumors of wars;nation rising against nation famines' disease; false prophets will decieve many; and lawlessness. The gospel will be preched through all the world. There will be persecution against Christians in all nations. Mens hearts will fear for the future; they will be selfish arrogant, and proud. Homosexuality will increase. There will be blasphemy, cold heartedness and intemperance (drunkeness). ungodliness, pleaseure seeking; much hypocrisy. False Bible teachers will have many followers, be money hungry, and slander the Christian faith.

Joel 2: 1-10 relates the coming of Armeggedon, the greatest of all battles. This vision (which seems to be of flame-throwing tank warfare) was given approximately 2800 years ago, so Joel realtes teh tanks to Chariots. THink of modern Warfare: Fire goes before them (v. 3) they burn what is behind them (v. 3) they destroy everything in their path (v.3) They move at the speed of a horse (v. 4) their rumbling sounds like the noise of many chariots and fire (v. 5) they climb over walls ( v. 7) they don't break ranks (v. 7) teh sword can't stop them (v. 8 ) They climb into houses V. 9) They make the earth quake

That not enough? THe Bible tells of Nuclear Warfare in Ezekiel 39, written over 2,500 years ago. Verses 12-15 describe what will happen. " and seven months shall the house of teh Lord be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land...and theyshall sever out men of continual employment, passing through teh land to bury with the passengers that remain on the face of the Earth, to cleanse it. After teh end of seven months, shall they search. And the passengers that pass through the land, when any man sees bones, he shall set up a sign near it". This describes cleansing land after a nuclear strike. So many will die, it will take men specially employed for teh task of burying them seven months. The Scripture is very clear on how the dead are buried. There wll be markers left by the remains to alert others of nuclear contamination. After 7 months, the bones are reclaimed and buried.

Need I go on?
Who's not to say this could all happen on Dec. 1 2012? Well yeah, we gotta go through the AntiChrist, the Rapture, and all that Good stuff first...

Was this a Christian/Bible thread? Come on...

I have no idea how the United States is doing since I don't live there, but everytime I catch CNN or some other news channel, I get the idea that they're not very optimistic.

You're more than welcome to continue posting facts, but for untold years, people have given us these "facts" that would seemingly prove the end of the world is in our midst. None of them have come true--why should this prediction be right?

I don't really see the point in griping about the end of the world. It's stupid to lose your head and give up on life because 2012 is coming soon, but it's also ridiculous to preach that December 21st, 2012 will be our end. There have been numerous failed "end of the world" predictions in the world; what makes this one right? The Bible is so vague on the subject that, much like Nostradamus's' predictions, they can be related to anything at all.

Anyways, we can always rely on Australia: we may predict that the world will end today, but it's already tomorrow in Australia.

It seems like this thread was based on the "State of the Union", but now we're talking about the end of the world. Why do we always veer off-topic?

You're right, the end times are here! [/sarcasm]

Look, my patience for people who preach bigoted end times babble is almost nonexistent. This has nothing to do with the state of the union.

The only think that prevents me from bringing pure, cold, and unmerciful logic into the Christian thread is my tolerance for the religious beliefs of others. At this point, I'm actually considering it. Now, I might have taken the supposed "end of the world" seriously if you had just left it at the nuclear arms race and left the religious (can't think of a nice word right now) out of it. That is a problem that can be discussed.

In other (not so nice) words:

Cut the religious cr** and remember that not everyone has the same beliefs as you!! :cussout:

My God, How the heck do you all see this?! Just because I quoted from the Bible, Does that make it any less true? For Cheese sake, When the Bible says Homosexuality will increase, that statement is just like in Revelation where it says there will be an increase of knowledge. OH NOES Learning! [/sarcasm] This is merely stating what will happen. Look at the verses, then look at what's going on in the world. Look at Bird Flu. Look at Iraq and Iran. Look at those who die for their beliefs. Look at the untold horde of Televangilists who just want your money.

See a resemblance?

I did not intend to bring religion into this. I saw something in the Bible about this, and I thought it would be interesting for all of you. I thougth you could see what it said, and how Armeggedon could pan out, but I was wrong.

My first mistake was using the Bible and not expecting peopel to jump to conclusions.

My second mistake was to expect people to understand how this goes with the topic (How America is gonna be in the future).

OY.

First off, everyone. LITTLE OF THE BIBLE, LEAST OF ALL THE PORTION JF QUOTED, WAS MEANT TO TELL ANY SORT OF HISTORICAL/ARMAGEDDONAL TRUTH. It's an interesting account, but it's simply a vision that's meant to say something like HAY DUN DO DIS OR TEH WORLD WILL GO KAPLOOEY.

Then, JesusFreak. If you bring religion into conversations, CHANCES ARE PEOPLE WILL GET SENSITIVE ABOUT IT. It's one of the three most sensitive topics in the universe, the others being politics and sex. Predict an opinion's reaction before making it. I am not saying it's wrong, bot everyone here is Catholic, and some will be heavily offended by its mentioning. That is FACT. Know the facts, and you'll survive a lot longer in the world.

I have seen too many threads following these patterns. If this happens again, I will really lose my cool. Got it?

Now that that's over with, let's get back to talking about AMERICA'S FLAWS. Because THAT'S WHAT THIS THREAD IS ABOUT.

(and if any of this continues beyond this post, I will not be happy. I WANT PEACE ON THIS FORUM, IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?)

It's not that it was a bad idea. It's just that others are a bit sensitive to its use. It was a simple failure of foresight.

But, anyway. Yesh, yesh, teh terrorists. I dun like teh terrorists. I've been terrified as hell of planes since 9/11.

Omae, relax, MJM. It's our jobs as moderators to keep you from jumping over the fence here, okay? Please don't doubt our judgement.

ANd as far as I'm concerned, the bible is a study of suggestions of how to live one style of life with codes and ethics. you can get the same thing in a computer manual. And hey, you can even base a fairly decent country off of it for a while.

As for the state of the union,, there is none. the unin is not aa state! Otherwise, it would be between Montana and Canada! OOOO CANADAAA~!

Unfortunately, most of what people see of what the governemnt's doing is through entertainment shows and foreign opinions. There's few people who are actually learning and taking part in their governemtn, and underestimate the power of their votes.

Oh in the name of Erynn... Now that I look back on some of the threads, Carth made a VERY good call... I''m sorry to be so direct, but can't you people grow up?

I heard that a while ago, but after 9/11, a terrorist tried to hijack a plane, and ended up getting wacked with an axe.

Just so I don't stray off-topic, here are my thoughts:
