Dumbledore in a way you never thought of him before...

Postby MY85 » Sun Oct 21, 2007 11:50 pm

I'm surprised there hasn't been a thread about this yet. Read and be surprised...

Didn't saw it coming at all, but at this point, Dumbledore being gay doesn't affect my view on the Potter books at all. Sounds kinda funny the idea of Dumbledore as gay, though.

Fan Fiction... now they got another reason to write for...

I wonder if for the HBP movie, they'll pull a hint about Dumbledore being gay... or they might put the Dumbledore gay scene on the DVD Edition if it ever happens... whatever.

Sounds good. Dumbledore's character doesn't change at all--if anyone hates him after Rowling's statement, it just goes to show their true colors.

Well it certainly adds interesting character depth for a change.

Not everyone likes her work, Rowling said, likely referring to Christian groups that have alleged the books promote witchcraft. Her news about Dumbledore, she said, will give them one more reason.

Can't I just not like her books because they suck?

Viva la gay Dumbledore!

Honestly, it doesn't make a difference to me. But why did Rowling wait 'till now to tell us? After never even hinting at it, what's the point? That's like George Lucas telling everyone that Han Solo was gay after Episode Three was over. "Um.. Okay then. Thanks for clearing that up, George. Cause yanno, we'd always wondered."

You say the Potter books suck even if you didn't read them and yet you like stuff like Teen Titans and Mew Mew Power... your credibility as a human being is lost on me. :arg:

I stopped reading at the first sentence of that article. o_O; For the sake of replying with no spam, I'll continue...

Wow... where do I begin... where the hell did this come from? -_- No mention of it earlier in time or anything... this reeks of a publicity stunt. >~> "My God, the FANFICTION" indeed. I'm off to FF.net now to see if it's been noticed...

Yeah, Teki... this also screams of a publicity stunt. Harry Potter is still over worldwide, so mentioning Dumbledore is gay looks like craving for attention, even if Rowling just said Dumbledore is gay for sh*ts and giggles.

The Dursleys treating Potter like crap is no different than the Cinderella situation or real life cases where stepchilds are treated like maids and slaves. Cinderella was used like a maid, but did her stepmother wanted to murder her? No. And besides, the Dursleys-Potter isn't the main thing of the story.

I never heard of Rowling caring about inbreds, so prove me Harry Potter was made for goth kids at a first instance.

...actually not too surprising. o_0

I usually think of Dumbly-dorr as asexual, giving up interpersonal relationships in lieu of power and the Horcruxes and stuff. Personally, his sexuality doesn't matter to me. Now, if I were a fanfic writer...

I wonder what my mom'll think of this. She's a huge HP fan. But I dun care. Backstories can go wherever they please.

It was enough that half-way threw the first book I gave up on it. I know they explain why in later books, but I still think it's stupid that his Aunt hated his sister so much (SHE WAS BLOODY MURDERED) that she can't even find pity for her orpaned nephew. Thats pathetic, no one is that cruel.

The whole social outcast-parent hated-nerdish-withcraft blah blah blah isn't enough? Same thing Disney does really, only they dress their characters in prep clothes.

Just my opinion, but maybe you should read into it again. It's something more than that. You can't judge a character or a trilogy based on one book, where the characters have time to grow and the backstory to unfold.

Unless I misread, I do recall the situation with the Dudley's making sense later on, and why Aunt Petunia hates Harry so much. I can't say too much, but think about it; why would Dumbledore put Harry with a family who hates him? There's a reason for it, and you have to read to find out.

Also, Carth, Dumbledore used somethingorother? I swear to God, I'm just going to hope that's a grammatical error, or you mixed up characters.

If you reread them, you might find hints of it. Now I gotta reread them...

Of course, i'm giving Rowling one week to say "Just Kidding". One week.

He isn't, BTW. He gets married to Leia and has three kids: Anakin, Jacen, and Jaina.

But more t the point...

Am I the only one who's going, "Who gives a crap?" I mean, come on. So he's gay. He's still the coolest character in the books!

That's really unfair, KS. The book series is over, and before you hearda bout this, your opeinion wasn't changed at all. But because of one three letter word that was never actually mentioned in the book, someone merely smoothing out the idea is a homophobe?

Umm... riiight... You see, I'm under the assumption that Zero is asking "Who cares if he is gay?" and I'm responding with the word "homophobes," as an indication that homophobes care about whether or not he is gay. That's why I bolded the question, as though I am answering it.

Well, actually, people who really like fanfiction care if he's gay or not, but that's somewhat irrelevant.

And just out of curiosity, did you interpret some else from what I answered? And if so, what was it?

Didn't Rowling say that Dumbledore is gay, or something? A friend of mine said that Rowling announced Dumbledore was gay at a book signing or something. I'll believe that when I see it.
