Postby Little Vili » Mon May 01, 2006 9:05 pm

Have you ever wondered if l33t speak was a bad thing, and not just annoying? Well I guess this article will answer the question.

Some moron at the office must have really needed some points to keep them alive in their job. Honestly now, how the h*ll would leet speak be dangerous? I bet we could all think of things that are ten bagillion times worse than leet speak. I use it all the time (not on here...anymore), and Im doint perfectly fine with my life. In fact, its not even that popular; most of my friends dont know what leet even is.

So tell me, what do you think of all this?

Oh gawd - I just get really annoyed at these over-protective parents who try to monitor everything their child does online, it just really rubs me up the wrong way :cussout:

I dont see anything wrong with l33t speak, I use it when I IM with my friends. We use it just for fun.

I agree with TB3, over-protective parents are annoying, I should know, I have over-protective parents. It's not fun. :cussout:

Man, kids have always created languages to keep adults from knowing what they're saying. Where do you think Pig Latin came from?

How did you find a link to a story from the CBS station here in Columbus? I didn't even know WBNS had done a story on leet speak...

Leet speak is annoying, I never use it... well, except for making passwords...

Pig Latin?? :umm: Never heard of it before... or maybe I saw it before, just without knowing the name.

Indeed a good use of Leet speak.

My opinion of that article: rofl

igPay atinLay. You take off the first letter of a word and put it at the end with a an "a" sound. If the word starts with a vowel, you say "a" at the end. That's Pig Latin.

AHahahaha, wonderful, I was JUST about to leave the computer to go write something, and then I saw this. Oh, my sides...

1337 can only be dangerous if you can't at least partially decipher it, because there's a one quadrillionth chance that some hacker out there still use leet, but hey, it's still a chance, and a might bit larger than the ability for my grandmotehr to understand insurance.

rofl, well said.

Adults sure do like to take time to drive ph34r into each other dont they. H311, just the other day I was listening to something about how an alarm clock some how shocked (as in scared) a teen to death (in his/her) sleep because the alarm was too loud too suddenly. So what does the announcer say after? "How alarm clocks can cause your untimely death." (paraphrased).

What can I say, people are stupid.

Ack geez. Leet speak is nothing more then more AIM talk. I don't use Leet because as LadyChaos pointed out it's annoying.

And parents watching over their kids back while their on the computer is also annoying. My father use to do that when I was on the comuter. And when we had AOL he had this thing where it would send him an e-mail telling him where my brother and me went online.

This reminds me of something my grandparents said to my cousin. He was playing videogames a lot, and they told him to get off, because "we saw on CSI a kid died because he played for days straight with no food or drink". ROFL, like it's real, and like we're not gonna take breaks anyway..

No kidding! xD I think that's definitely what made me laugh so hard about that article... the writer obviously had *no* *idea* what kids on the internet these days are all about, because no self-respecting non-noob uses leet speak seriously. Much less as a "secret underground code" or whatever.

And I thought the point of leet was that it was writing using characters that are different from the ones you'd use normally, but similar enough in appearance that you could understand what it's supposed to mean... I mean, yeah, it's annoying to have to read huge paragraphs of at once, but you have to be really, really stupid to look at it at all and not even get a small feel for what it's supposed to mean. Haha.

...I guess I broke my promise of "not saying anything". xD

... Yeep...
I sent her an e-mail. I don't know why, I changed my name.

And there's nothing wrong with Leet. And if this Heather thinks she's gonna end teen rebellion and stop slang just by posting an under-200 word paper, then she has seriously been itching for a promo too long. Leet speak is just a way to secure your passwords, that parents actually encourage. When you make up a password, you switch between leet and not, and throw in some numbers.
And of course they don't want prents budding into everything they do! Otherwise, they'll just break them off from society, and be completely socially inept. Trust me, I've learned that the hard way.

You know, in the 1920s a group of Americans thought a single 'glorious' reform would end all crime, drag America's morals out of the gutter, end homelessness, violance, end all social ills and make everything right nice and happy gain.

They called it 'PROHIBITION' - it worked out well didn't it? XD

Seems to me like 'Heather' has the same mentality - her tagline might go like this:

[Edited by Star Way for reason: Just 'cause it's in Leet doesn't mean it's not still cussing, Rodri...]

But still, the article is funny. *also voted for last option*

That article is...really, really stupid. Surely they can't seriously think that l337 is being used for criminal activity...That may be the most absurd thing I have read in quite some time. Voted for the last option...

xDDD omg, you're absolutely right. That person like... #1 had absolutely nothing better to do. #2 probably hates all teenagers or something so anything they do is of course the Devil. and #3 probably can't use a computer, so they think anything that has to do with a computer is the devil.

..Or at least, someone like that gave them the idea. l33t is fun, j0. w0rdddd. xD:

When I read that article, I could just imagine some old 40 year old guy up in the news room on his laptop typing away (having little to no knowledge on l33t speak, or the teen world of IMing).

Although I personally don't have any idea what leet speak is, I don't see what the problem concerning it is about.
