Now... at 77.37% of the votes tallied, García has got 55.45% of the total votes...

Why do I think García has won?

1) He's got d**n good mic skills than any of the other previous candidates. What Ollanta only did was gathering the poor and ignorants and bashing the rich and getting into problems with some of the peruvian media and he sucked at bashing Alan (he had problems also with García's biggest basher, Fernando Olivera Vega).

2) Hugo Chávez has a very bad image on South America. His image just screwed up Ollanta instead of helping him.

3) The national debate. Alan was precise, Ollanta seemed nervous... and there was this thing about the peruvian flag (Ollanta had to take it away because of advertising himself with it, but he questioned the moderators of the debate if they were ashamed of the flag).

4) García has been a thief... well, who doesn't steal money as a president? But Ollanta is totally linked towards former president Alberto Fujimori (exilied in Chile) and former SIN chief Vladimiro Montesions (locked up in Lima).

5) Despite his crappy period during 1985-1990, García got experience into what it takes to govern Peru. Ollanta´s a newbie and his militarist tendencies and his self image isn´t good. His family had problems before... his brother Antauro doing some revolution at the highlands years ago...

There's more I could say... but yeah, I hope Alan doesn´t f**k it up like he did by 1985-1990.

As for how I voted:

First round: Lourdes Flores

Second round: Alan García... unless ONPE saw the little teeth drawn on García's tooth and the slightly written "loser" word on Ollanta's face.

Before I voted on 2nd round, my brother suggested Erynn for president. Or to write "LF should rule Peru". Of course he was joking.

Ah, the wonders of a country with obligatory voting. At least the populace manmaged to pick the lesser of two evils. The inflation can't be as bad as his first stint in office, right? And I think it's fine here; educating us on Peruvian politics is interesting...
