Moderators: The Administrators, Moderators

IRC: #Lyokofreak Project

Postby Jeremified » Thu Aug 30, 2007 7:39 pm

Wartonchan and Nhjm449 (of Techlinks) have helped me set up an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) channel for Lyokofreak.

Download an IRC client (such as mIRC or HydraIRC (which is a bit more efficient), or click "Chat" at the top of the page (but you need to keep that page open to stay logged on)) and then join the server irc.teklinks.org and join the channel #lyokofreak.

Hopefully we'll have many good times there. :) BKO discussion is allowed, since IRC is unmoderated.

Rules for #Lyokofreak:

1) Be respectful. Blatant insults and/or picking fights will not be tolerated.
2) This ties in with Rule 1, but go easy on the language. A censored cuss word every once in awhile is not going to kill anyone, but there is no need to continually use cuss words to get your point across.
3) Spamming is frowned upon in the channel. This means flame wars, posting nonsensical things over and over again, et cetera. You guys are bright, you know what spamming is.
4) Have fun!

Also, each member gets a mode, much like the statuses on the forum (Member, Moderator, Admin, etc.). Most of you will be in the "Normal" section. Users who are good contributors and are very good with the general rules of IRC get "Voice", which doesn't really do much, but you're higher on the userlist. :P Moderators are "Ops", meaning they have some control over the channel. Respect them. Administrators are "Admins" or "Owners", as well as Wartonchan and nhjm449, because they control the technical stuff.

Please remember that if you join, you shouldn't just leave within minutes. Stay around for awhile and leave IRC open (unless you pay for your Internet connection by how much on-time you use- in that case, don't waste your minutes!). Hopefully we can get around 10 to 15 members online at a time.

Again, it's Server irc.teklinks.org , Channel #lyokofreak . Hope to see you soon!

Hmm - no offence but if you were planning to launch an official Lyokofreak service, it would be nice to warn the staff first ;)

That said, looks interesting

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Warton told one of the admins, I think. I'll ask him.

hmm... I can't get the Internet one to work, and I don't really want to pay for the mIRC, or the other one.

HydraIRC is 100% free. mIRC just has a nag screen once the 30 days are up.

will mIRC work after the 30 days are up?

My mom uses that, so if I'm going to use one, it'll be that one.

Yes. It'll just have a longer nag-screen delay.

Edit: However, it's much easier to find the server on HydraIRC...

I found a bunch of IRC clients that were downloaded onto my computer when linux was installed. for any linux user, try Ksirc, Kvlrc 3, Konversation, or Xchat IRC. I suggest Ksirc, personally.

Hmm, it's not getting enough attention. So far two people have tried joining, and I really want some mods to join so they can moderate the channel. Suggestions?

Wow...this seems pretty cool...I may try to get the HydraIRC and get it from there.

I second the outside of BKO motion..because of the fact that alot of the members dont have BKO access yet...the ones who do are a core group.

Getting IRC set up was something on my to do list for quite a bit. x3 At least it's out of the way now.

... the only thing is, I have no idea how everything on it works. o_o;; Where do I put in the server/channel names on HydraIRC? >_>;; They seem to expect you to know where, but I don't. xDD

Press Ctrl+S, then type the server in the textbox and select your identity from the box below.

Another possible client for use, also free (and also with that 30-day nag screen =_= ) is SysReset. It's got a great (if slightly confusing sometimes) interface, and I've been using it myself since 2005.

That being said, I'm gonna have to check out #Lyokofreak xDD (Oh, my usual usernames are "Roll_Soul" and "Megatank" in case anybody wants to do a CB-watch ;P xDDD )

Oh as a slight note, being "voiced" means that if the channel is silenced, then any users with that can still talk and still hear each other. Any "normal" users won't be able to post anything.

Okay, I have an idea now: Should BKO members get voice and non-BKO members don't? Or keep it as is on the first post?

In my experience, there's not much difference between Voice and non-Voice. I say give it to those who earn it, but don't make a habit out of keeping your channel muted xD;

But that's just my advice; in the end it's your channel, run it how you want xD
