The Life stages of a Lyokofreak member

Postby Sithking Zero » Mon Jul 09, 2007 9:51 am

In this topic, I am merely analyzing the different life stages of the average forum goer, from simple n00b to full-fleged 1337 member.

First stage: Newbie. Totally new to the forum. Posts entry post on the big newbie board. innocent, harmless, relatively shy. Spambots are easily weeded out.

Second stage: Annoying. While still new, the new person creates several duplicate threads, has too large of a sig, and posts their fanfics directly instead of linking to them. people ignore canon information and provide crazy fan theories. Post in every topic imaginable. Few are banned, however, because they are new and are still adjusting to the rules.

Third stage: Fear. A quieter period of time where their opinions are subdued and weaker. They try to stay out of the admin and mod spotlight, and act shyer and more affraid, due to ribbing and teasing for being a N00b in the second stage. Less posts are made in this stage then in the others.

Fourth stage: Acceptance. The person makes several friends, allowing them to slightly shed the online nervousness. Thoughtful, longer posts are more common. People read previous posts before posting. People learn the value of "Nothing nice to say, say nothing at all." Less inflamitory posts made, or made more carefully.

Fifth stage: Admin and modship. Whether appointed by StarWay or by the mods themselves, this stage is the highest that anyone can reach. Shows total dedication to the forum. Wide-reaching responsibilities. Power galore.

Other varieties of Forum life forms include:

Spambots: Evil monsters that create new topics solely for the purpose of spreading porn, drugs, and viruses. These entities are to be reported to the "Spambot" thread in "Site news." They once occupied three-fourths of the population of LF, along with the next catagory...

Zero-posters. These entities join but never post, instead prefering to wait until the oportune time. Or perhaps they forget about their LF account. Who knows? All that's known for a fact is that they take up valuable memory space.

Lurkers: They do nothing but watch the topics go by and never post. More annoying then anything else. They are relatively well informed about forum-goings on, though.

Banned members: These beings have been, for one reason or another, not been allowed to post here any more. They are ostricized and rejected. The causes for banning are many, such as being incindiary, not respecting forum rules, being a jerk, hacking the site, racism, excessive swearing, breaking the rules a lot, etc.

Blocked members: Similar to banned members, but not permanently banned. More of a "Time out" then anything else.

Lyoko422 added this one, but here it is:

Hiatus- The person forgets about their account or stops using it completely for some reason, and is gone for extended amounts of time. The person, whether they were annoying or popular, is forgotten. But then, out of the blue, the member returns and is more active than ever. Not everyone experiences hiatus, and it can happen during any stage.

Well, these were all the variety of members I could think of. I hope people find this interesting/ useful!

Um, *gulp* at what point do you enter each stage? Is it by posting a certain amount of replies or something like that?

No, I was speaking in general. It's not given that you'll act this way, I'm just saying that typically, this is how people act.

And no, it's not set in stone.

Adding on to what he said- It's more of a mental journey with no real known breaking point. You, JesusFreak, seem to be in transition from stage one to stage two.

I think I never left stage two. There's a lot of people like that. :D Sometimes I snap into stage three, or four if I'm lucky.

Most people fall into a rotational cycle of two, three, four, two, three, four.

Yeah, it's more of a mental thing.

You've forgotten a life stage, my dear Sithking. I like to call it "Hiatus". Here:

Hiatus- The person forgets about their account or stops using it completely for some reason, and is gone for extended amounts of time. The person, whether they were annoying or popular, is forgotten. But then, out of the blue, the member returns and is more active than ever. Not everyone experiences hiatus, and it can happen during any stage.

Or am I the only member who's left for... 5 months? Looking at it, I think I may be in early stage 4. I've got friends! I think...

I joined up on January 10th and did not return until October 19th--that's about 10 months. Good luck topping that one.

BAB left for... much longer.

And I can't help but feel that this needs the different ingredients to different contributors.

Thats a pretty good summary of ranks. I think I'm number 3 at the moment. I used to post heaps but not so much anymore. Just in forum games. I haven't been here long enough to have a cycle yet :)

I'm in Stage 4 right now, but I'm also sorta in a hiatus. Coming out briefly, but within two months I'll be gone again. High school's gonna kill me if I have any distractions.
thank you all for the good memories <3

Then there are those who never come back.

Then there are those who don't fit in any of these stages at all.

Well, that's just it. there's more.

Also, this only seems to follow one type of newbie. there are differnt types. I started out as the one that was really scared and really happy to be here and really ploite and I think I'm going to shut up now Type of newbie. Way back at TVT.

Actually, it's really fun to look at people's first twenty posts and all....

I think at the beginning, when I first joined here... (Almost a year ago) I didn't want to get too comfortable. I mean hey, look at those powerful users with their thousands of posts. I think now though, I'm getting more comfortable. I mean, when I first joined, I only told a few about me being gay. Now, pretty much everyone knows, and I don't have a problem with it. :)

Sakura-Chan, I'm not telling you it's bad to be what you are, but there are going to be some people who are going to dislike your preferences, including pastors like Billy Graham. I support you, but I'm straight.

I understand. I mean, I told the one person I trust... and he goes and tells others. Now I just get called faggit, and get punched or kicked. Hey, I fight back... but what'll that do against 3 others?

Thanks for the support. :] Eh... sorry for going off topic here guys.
