I just went trawling through the memberlist in view of the flood of spambots we've had of late, and of the 1600 'registered members' on LF, over a thousand (1030 to be precise) have yet to make a single post.

Time for a big sweep-out to my eyes.

Indeed, I believe it was mentioned somewhere, I think by StarWay herself, that the plague of spambots is due to a glitch phpBBis having with all of their forums. I believe some error there is allowing spambots to register without having to have a verified e-mail and without having to deal with the "coded letters". ^_-

Here's an idea I found on another sight a long, long time ago:

We could have a flash video with a hiden link in it, sortove like an anti-spambot primary. You click on the regester, and are sent to a flash video.The instructions might be "Click on XANA's icon!" or somthing like that. Then, as the flash video plays, we could have a few boobie(sp) trap links that show up befor and after the target in the flash, but are minutly small (ulrick's left eye, a flower on yumi's fan ex.), just incase a spambot manages to hijack the scrips and find the link.

Yes, but how many spambots are there reallly? Not very many.

You have to realize those are people who just don't post on Lyoko freak.

if it's at all possible, I'd suggest sending out a mass e-mail or PM to the LF users, if it's possible, that there's been a bit too much of people not posting, and that this is their one warning. Not having time and losing a password aren't excuses, they can be retrieved easily. and it's only taking up bulk for th site.

Well actually, it is a bunch of spambots, unfortunately. The easiest way to tell is to look at their "website" listed, although for some strange reason...a lot of the spambots seem to have ICQ o.O; Anyway, that's if their username doesn't give it away xD; And some of them are posting, but their posts are getting deleted before they can be seen by the general populous (I know I've nixxed quite a few at 5 AM before..). Others just seem to function to clog up member lists. With any luck, something can be done soon :\ ...

In the meantime, until we clean out the archives, I think we should start a new thread strictly for spambot sightings, just so the mod and the admins have some backup in their quest to eradicate the foul spambot menace.
