Possible Forum Downtime

phpBB keeps yelling at me for not upgrading the forum software, and it's finally begun to get on my nerves. To upgrade the software requires that I shut down the forum breifly, and then do this and that to get it back online.

I haven't decided exactly when I'm going to do this... it might happen today, but it probably won't. I have a lot of work to do (HW, and a few little chores here and there) and I have no idea exactly how much time it'll take to upgrade, as this will be my first time doing so. (Wish me luck, lol. Thankfully if I do mess up the whole forum, I can get my lovely-pookie support group to fix it up for me. )

Anyway, just thought I'd give you all a heads up. When I have info on the exact time that the upgrade/downtime will occur, I'll post.

Hahaha, don't worry guys. Even if by some small chance, I did mess something up (which really isn't likely) I have the forum backed up on my harddrive, so I could just re-upload the directory to my FTP server if all else failed. But I'm 99.infinite9% certain that it won't come to that.

As for the upgrades, they won't be anything visible. I'll have to look at the list of what was changed again on the phpbb site, but I believe most of them are just bug patches. Sorry for the disappointment.

I might do this today, guys, so be ready... when it happens, the forum will say that it is not active (and will be in the oldschool SubSilver style) and won't stop doing that until I get everything finished. Downtime shouldn't be more than a couple minutes, if that.

Back up-and-running, baby! I was a little scared for a moment because it was giving me errors when I wanted to access my admin panel. Thank god I figured that one out. *wipes sweat from brow*

That was a zillion billion trillion times easier than I thought. From now on. upgrades will be a total snap! Woot!

So at most it was 42 minutes, not all that long. Erynn all you had to do was delete all the files in /forum/ and install the new version there and connect it to the database right? After all the posts are held in the database.

Something like that. It involved getting the new files and uploading them, and then I had to configure a few things. I got sidetracked along the way with something completely different though, and then I was like, 'oh %^*&& what did I do to my forum??' because it was beign weird... But then it was okay.
