Yana.Rudenko2009 wrote:Our Umbrella Store offers several kinds of umbrellas, such as parasols, rain umbrellas, golf umbrellas, men's Umbrellas,Children's umbrellas and so forth. Most of these products are made in fulmargin, Pearl cloth, Satin, nylon-polyester, Color grid plot,Carom cloth, Flash color cloth. Some umbrellas are covered with China's traditional embroidery which can give you a taste of the exotic.
We sincerely hope that you could chose your favorite goods in our shop.

Website links to a shopping site, and uses random gibberish for info (which I assume to prevent namebased spambot dragnets)

EDIT:

Somebody fails at clonebotting. Here are 3 accounts with the exact same information.

On the other hand, thank you all for pointing these guys out with direct links. Makes them waaay easier to delete.

Opps... I thought they didn't appear in the memberlist until they were admin approved.

Sorry about that...

It's true, some forums run their memberlists like that (I think CL.com's forum does maybe ), but LF's is free-registration. *nods*

But like I said, they can't post until they receive Admin permission and activation of their account, so we shouldn't see any spam posts from them.

...Hopefully. >_>;

Their site leads to some sort of Japanese-looking retail site. That with the spammy username makes me suspicious.

Yet another one.
profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=5398
Do you think that we should purge the spam accounts like we did a year or two back, and maybe upgrade the forum to phpBB3 in the process?

There actually aren't that many spam accounts to purge. Ever since membership was made Admin-Activation only, all spambots are deleted almost as soon as they register (give or take a couple days). The only thing that is really deletable at this point would be accounts that were created before we moved to Admin-Activation, and that still have 0 posts, if anything just to liberate the names for others to use. We can look into that, for sure and that's something we can do without Warton or our tech admins.

Speaking of them, I'm still trying to talk with Warton about the upgrade. At this point, it almost might be worthwhile to wait until phpBB4 but we'll see. ^^

Seems to taper off after there. Hope this helps you Mew or TB3!

I'd almost write a script that would flag any new user with a website since this is getting so bad. I wonder how they are getting past the captcha?

I, uh... I'm not entirely sure we have a captcha. Remember, the forum infrastructure is ancient.

*opens private tab in Opera, goes to LF, clicks register* Bu god, we do have a Captcha! Well... sort of. Captchas are distorted... this is just a bunch of numbers and letters. This is circa the turn of the millennium, so I'd imagine bots can get past it quite easily now.

I'm sure me saying this isn't helping at all... I'll just slink away now.

Pretty much.

We have Captcha, but it's old, and I'm sure most bots written nowadays can easily over-ride it.

Basically, for some reason, they've just decided to target this forum (and probably other older phpbb forums) and inundate us with bot accounts. I've managed to block most of them but as you can see there's still quite a few getting in.

I'll have them all deleted eventually. Online time has been limited lately for me so please don't be nervous if you see the number of spambots building up every once in awhile. They can't join the forum because they can't self-activate so we /shouldn't/ see any of them posting. ...They're just there taking up space and generally looking stupid. 8|

Re: Spam Bots on the Forum

Postby TheAppleFreak » Thu Oct 04, 2012 12:41 am

Well, with the new upgrade to the forum, it seems as if our spambot protection has once again failed us. I'm planning on implementing anti-spambot measures tomorrow, but that means for the meantime we're gonna be hit by spambots. Post their profiles here and I'll be sure to remove them ASAP.

So far, I have:
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=19987
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=19980
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=19985
