Cleaning house

Postby Star Way » Sat Dec 31, 2005 11:00 pm

Since the new year is almost here, a user clean-out will be occurring soon. All users that registered before the beginning of December and have a post count of zero will be deleted without warning. This is just a little heads-up.

Happy New Year, all!

Um, I have a question. If there are such users with 0 post count, then it's most likely they wouldn't come here often. Which means they wouldn't see this thread...

Hence the "without warning" bit...

It's finished. The reason why we still have several 0-posters is because MANY new members came in December, and I'm not going to delete any of them.

The next scheduled user-clean out is for February 28th, 2006.

Thanks to comex and LothoFoxBurr and the rest of the gang who helped me with this at TechLinks. :)

Unfortunately, from looking I can see that Lotho's suggestion would make the database delete all users who registered before 15 divided by 12 divided by 5 ;)

Instead of 15/12/05, use UNIX_TIMESTAMP("2005-12-15")

I was asking how that worked not suggesting. That is why I put "Would this work? (This is a complete guess)."

Even though I guess I should have known.

Okay, okay, but Star Way DID credit you with giving the solution, even if it wasn't meant as such :P

Let's not quarrel about this. Truth is we both don't know how the post_time integer works in phpBB. And Techlinks needs a database clense too.

Comex, look up.

Look up where? How do we not understand the post_time integer? It's a unix timestamp, and the reason that two different timestamps were the same time is that they were less than 60 seconds apart and thus were in the same minute. If I'm wrong, I'm sure a short look at the phpbb source will explain how I am.m,

And I was and am not trying to quarrel :)

It seems quite unusual that when I changed the last digit, on the very right, it changed the date by 20 or so years. I'm going to do a bit more testing later on though. Or you can check it out in the source. If you figure it out I would like to find out.

And look up at Erynn's post.

Really? I did this on Techlinks.
mysql> update phpbb_posts set post_time = post_time + 1 where post_id = 5425;
Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)
Rows matched: 1 Changed: 1 Warnings: 0

The post time "did not change".

mysql> update phpbb_posts set post_time = post_time + 100 where post_id = 5425;
Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)
Rows matched: 1 Changed: 1 Warnings: 0

The post time increased by 2 minutes, as expected.

So, I'm inclined to think that you removed one of the digits by mistake.

I hope I did so. I will try again later. Also you should try setting post_time to 0 and see what happens. For mine it gave a realistic time instead of the expected.

Yeah,
If they dont come that often, they should be guests. Its only reasonable. Isin't it?
I have seen an increase in members but not that many in posts. (I didint say none)
Whats the use, a guest that watches the forum and being a member and not posting is basically the same.

Right. Well, inless they are unaware, and aren't into the show anymore, or just don't want to be part of a forum, or they want to post just haven't been able to. It's all very complicated...
And yet so simple.

Is the counter still right? If we cleaned house, we shouldn't still have 330 members, should we?

*checks Discussion forum* Oh, never mind... wow, when did we hit 400?

Not long to the next clean up.

What accounts will be deleted? Those who joined December-January?
