Yep, its pretty much an open end left to the viewers' interpretation right now. I left a few ideas in my summary of "The Key" based on others personal views, but none of them have evidence to back it up, so aslong as its logical any view right now is valid.

Just to say what I put down as ideas:

Current theories for this phenomenon include that the black cloud is XANA's actual physical form, that the vortex was a TAP from which XANA used to emerge, or that he used the routers to 'Space-Construct' himself.

Again, these are all guesses and conjecture, so what truth they have is open to question.

And I say we should go ahead with "Hopper's Principles: An Insight into Lyoko" ver. 1.0. If Season 3 shows up in Spring and challenges our current theories, we can always make a revisory article.

Okay - so the time has come to begin writing.

My questions is, what kind of chapter structure do we want - how many, what should be covered in each, do we need a glossary, references to what is science fact and science fiction etc.

Now's the time for brainstorming the structure of the essay, so that we can blitz its writing.

Well this is what you originally chose for a structure concerning the article
FOREWORD

BASIC PRINCIPLES
(Exertanium, ZPE)

HARDWARE
(Scanners, Console, STM, PD, Supercalculator)

PROCEEDURES;
(Materialisation and Deveritualisation)

(TAPs, SAPs and RTTPs)

(Pixelisation/Posessions)

EPISODIC BREAKDOWNS
(What it says on the box)

ENDWORD

We could add a small gloassary at the end, since most of our major terms are already posted on the first page. Probably in procedures, you might want to incude a part about the inner workings of Lyoko, like their powers, their conciousness files, the way towes, Carthage, all that other good stuff.

You also said you wanted another chapter to take an indepth look at Aelita, which can be added before episodic breakdown, after procedures. You could have commentary at the end of each chapter discussing what is science fiction and science fact, though all references to evidence in show and from the creators should be dealt with in discussion, while footnotes and the like should be placed at the end of the section. While you're writing it, we can have the rest of the contributors bring up necessary and relevant information as you come to it. Sound good?

In Rock Bottom, a scene is clearly shown proving that no ancillaries level exists.

I don't have the screenshot, since I neglected to move my archive back to this computer before moving the server (so my old copy of that ep now transferring) but I will in about five minutes.

TB3 and I always placed the ancillaries level between the supercomputer room and the scanners, not the console lab and scanners.

Take a look at the cross section of the factory.
Image

As you can see, between the scanners and the supercomputer room there is a whole area of nothing, blank, a lot of space. Thus the perfect place to store extra material. If it was meant to be a floor, the space between the two wouldn need to be so expansive nor a need for a hatch when they could of drilled a hole and used a ladder, like the one used to get from the console room to the scanners.

Thanks for the ratification Animenologist and YDV.

And just looking at the picture again it reminds me of something. In reality Ile. Seguin is a natural island - in the show it appears mostly artifical, because that cross-section suggests that it's built on a few small islands with the rest of the building held up on pilings.

Evidence also suggests that the factory was once steam-powered, but is now water driven (never the case in reality) - if you look at the plan you have an evident water-intake under the lip at the front of the building, and then a sub-water-level labelled 'Turbine Room' - this could also explain why XANA was able to reactivate the factory so easily in 'The Trap' and 'The Robots' - release the turbine clutches and let them start spinning the generators - much easier than the laborious task of building up pressure in antiquated and obsolete boilers over the course of many hours.

Oh and another thought - Hopper and co. could NOT have constructed the rooms that the hidden complex is located in, so they must have been pre-existant. My idea in a fanfic was that they were the old water-tanks for the factory boilers, sunk down into the river when built, and then drained and capped when the building converted power sources. Not only does this provide a hidden and roomy space to work in, but it also explains the general feeling of 'dampness' I get about parts of the complex.

*

Connecting through to the above is 'where does the building get it's juice from' - the external lights still work (and come on every night it would seem) - also although Jeremie can control the elevator with his console, it does not seem to be connected to the PD as Jeremie wanted to check the control room for a blown fuse in 'The Trap' - and if these systems are still connected to the national grid why does no-one notice the voltage drain of the elevator.

It's a very niggling question I know but now I think is the time for such petty questions, or after we've written the essay they could appear and trip us up.

Who's next?

Oh, I've always wondered about that-- your theory makes sense. And this is my first time logging on since the winter "revamp" apparently. 'Tis pretty. :D

The idea I had was that they were originally part of the factory complex, just unused and locked up. But, you know, since Project Carthage was a military campaign, with funding from the government, it's not such a farfetched idea that they built it (I mean surely they built the console and the scanners and the supercomputer, you don't doubt that do you?)

I doubt Hopper would have been using a facility built for Project Carthage, which from the picture in the end credits gave me the impression was originally run out of a university or something, because prior to the 1970s university laborotories were responsible for massive scientific achievements and discoveries.

Then however the Big Businesses began hiring the best and brightest, funds subsequently dried up, and for financing many scientists had to look for grants from Foundations, Corporations...

...and the Military.

Just a thought.

Perhaps Hopper used some of the money from Project Carthage to build the supercomputer, scanners and console. I mean we get the idea that he did not like Project Carthage.

Wait, wait, wait. I thought Project Carthage -was- the supercomputer. Hopper was on the team, but was secretly building Lyoko and the scanners, etc? How else could he "combat" it..? :umm:

By setting up his complex miles away, and then creating XANA to fight Carthage from a safe distance. Except along the way things went...wrong.

I know. But how does that explain what happened to the rest of the team? Or Project Carthage itself? If it's not the supercomputers and the Specter Approach, what is it?

It would be both foolish of both Hopper and Project Carthage, if he set up Lyoko in the same building. Foolish for Hopper, because he placed the project right where the enemy can get to it, easily, and foolish for Project Carthage, because they would have to be morons not to see Hopper was using the same complex as they were for more than a decade.

I believe someone posed an interesting idea on Wikipedia, that the Carthage on Lyoko is the same Carthage that Hopper originally intended to destroy. But XANA decided to use Carthage for his own means, connecting it to Lyoko, thus gaining resources both from Carthage and from Franz's creation. Its a very way out theory, but it has its points. The fact that most of the community considered Sector 5 to be named Carthage, why its so heavily defended against, compared to normal Lyoko, and the user interface could also have been how Lyoko tried to fight Carthage, by taking its infomation and using it against them. But still this is for the most part very way out and bizarre, with not much actual evidence to support it. But its still a very interesting thought none-the-less.

Sounds like something I could've came up with. :D

Anywho, it does have some sense to it. I mean, XANA was designed to fight Project Carthage (perhaps through routers and specters?) and it would only be logical for him to want it after the supervirus granted him sentience (unless he had it already, but I doubt it)

But then... how could Hopper build the supercalculator and such all by himself? Where would he get the exertanium and the hardware and stuff? Meh... this is kinda turning into a plot event/storyline thoery thread, instead of a tech thread. But maybe we could incorporate, since we've pretty much got all the tech stuff down pat?

Maybe we should type up each section, piece by piece. Then have the community peer review it. Since it will be only in small pieces, they won't have to wade through 23 pages, just need to look at the small portion we post, ask questions, and once all questions are answered satisfactorily, we can continue, with the next section. Would help get more questions, when we can get the rest of the community to look at it and this would make it easier for them to look. What do you think?

For that, should we start a new thread or a LiveJournal thingy? Or should we keep it here?

Well, a new thread could make it more accessible, but would that necessary or even allowed, since we already have the thread dealing with it right here?

Good point - I've gotta log of shortly (7-hour shift at work looming), but when I get home this evening I'll try typing up the first bit on Exertanium and ZPE-Space.

Another minor thought. I think that the towers are also linked to monster creation aswell as the spectres. Take for example, in Frontier, all the Way towers were glowing red, despite not being used for any official attack. In Code: Earth, when making their way to the Way tower, the 3 blocks were guarding an activated tower. After defeating the Blocks, the tower glowed blue once more. When the megatank showed up, the tower glowed red once more. Same thing in A Fine Mess. 3 Kankrelats guarding tower, it was red, they get destroyed, tower is once again blue. Though that would mean that the inhibitors may have not been activated through the tower, but through XANA itself, sinceh does control forced devirtualization. Though when using it in this fashion, for monster creation only, not all the resources for the tower is used, and in some cases the leftover tower resources can be used to run normal console operations, like Jeremie's mateialization program in Code: Earth, despite the tower still glowing red.

Ah, now that is interesting, and it makes sense, since XANA is located in Carthage, any extension of himself into Lyoko (such as monsters or when he would conjure up a sandstorm or flip plateaus in S1), would have to go through the towers.

Also some of the S2 climactic revelations reveals ours thoughts about XANA being the OS and having intended control of the inhibitors are incorrect, so our original theory is void.

So in the 'Fine Mess' instance, Aelita was trying to access a program in Carthage that was locked-down anyway (don't want something tampering with as crucial a program as the rematt. after all), and the tower was glowing red because it was generating some monsters. This would also explain why the kids didn't seem surprised that the tower was glowing, if this is a day-to-day occurence for them.

Nice animenologist, very nice.

What do the others think?
