Hmm - don't know if this has any value or not, but I'm rewatching the footage I got from Paris and noticed something.

There has been some debate as to what is the proper term under which to group Lyoko and those within it.

Some use Lyokan

Some use Lyokon

Well rewatching the footage I realise that Jerome, the director, at one point used the term 'Lyokian', which I thought some people might find interesting.

That's good enough for me. Besides, didn't Lyokon get nicked by particle discussion?

Wheee- I always went with Lyokian. Lyokan sounded like a world made out of tin, while Lyokon sounded like a CL convention.

Hmm... Lyokon...

It'd probably have to be held in Paris...

In short - I met all the Voice Actors (sans Paul Bandey) and several of the Production Staff two weeks ago, and got a lot of it on camcorder which I'm editing into a video for all of LF.

For more details see the 'Lyokofreaks in Paris' thread.

I've always used a combo of Lyokon and Lyokan: "Lyokoan," personally.

I know that.

I want to know what is "Lyokan" or "Lyokian"

They're discussing what you would call the group (Odd, Ulrich, Yumi, Jeremie, Aelita, and whatever assorted persons may join in the next season or two.)

Lyokan and Lyokian are two of the terms that are being discussed as the group name. Some others are Lyokon or Lyokoan.

Lyokoan? I wonder if you could make a XANA ice cream cone... or snow cone... *gets shot for thinking of irrelevant things*

^ That, or what 'nationality' someone from Lyoko would be.

Haha, Whydeevee's country, New Lyoko, describes its people and language as New Lyokoans. xD; I've always called it Lyokoan.

Hehe - I actually named a virtual particle suggested by LTT a 'Lyokon' - there have been weirder names for particles - one scientist named his discovered particle after a brand of fabric softener! :P

As for Jerome - he pronouced it 'Lyoko-in' or 'Lyok-ean' though I assume the spelling would be 'Lyokian'

And one thing he told me was that yes indeed, the name Lyoko IS derived from the Japanese word 'Ryoko' (pronounced the same thanks to the Japanese blurring of 'r' and 'l'), which means 'travel'.

Woohoo! And one thing I've noticed about that is the way it's pronounced in the French version. If you take the the direct romanization of the word travel, you get 'ryokou', with the last O extended. And in the three episodes I've seen in French, that's the way they pronounce it xD; Yay for confirmation!!
