My favourite episode regarding Sissi is "Claustrophobia", with Theo. I cannot understand why Odd and Yumi diverted Theo from Sissi after the RTTP. I would have thought that a few initial countermeasures against Herb would be more than made up for by having Sissi's attention diverted from Ulrich, and consequently from all of them...

Maybe they thought they were doing a good deed by "saving" him from her. I'd have to see the episode to say for sure...

Thanks OBoy! A little story of my acting life, huh? That's a tall order...

My mom took me to see lots of plays, starting when I was very young. She loved the theater and admired actors, so she was a huge influence on me in that respect. She started me out in community theater when I was in elementary school, and I never really stopped acting since then. Most of my professional life has been in the theater, either acting, directing or designing lights. And of course I do alot of voice work in cartoons, narrations and commercials. I love all my work, but if I could only do one thing, it would be directing.

Is that more or less what you were looking for? Is it too long?

well before i ask my question i just have to tell you that people in your line of work really REALLY impress me. especially people like you who have to say your lines over video that was originally in a different language. how do you do it? o.o

First of all, someone translates the dialogue and makes sure it fits all the mouth movements of the characters. The translation is then hand-written by someone else on a thin strip of film in such a way that when it's projected on the screen (under the images) the dialogue moves from right to left. The actor's job is to read it "in place", and play the situation that's happening in a convincing manner. This technique isn't used in the US.

second thing is, how do you audition for a voice role, exactly? more specifically how did you audition for your role in code lyoko?

To audition, you go into a sound studio and "read" for one or more characters using the same technique I described above. All the voice tests are sent to the producers and they decide who does what.

I didn't do a voice test for Sissi. I was called in to replaced the original actress (a very good friend) who had other commitments and couldn't continue with the series. I'm not sure but I think she did the first 6 episodes.

Theo didn't look like he needed saving, and Sissi's demeanour seemed to improve under his influence. And the team could certainly do without Sissi's constant attention, which would have been gone if she were diverted from Ulrich to Theo... I guess that was just Odd being odd, but that still doesn't explain Yumi's co-operation... I guess that will remain a mystery.

I've been interested in Voice Actors for some time now and it's a pleasure to finally meet some (by extension, hello to Matt, Sharon, Barbara, David and anyone else I've missed) and I feel honoured that unlike many other actors and professionals you've joined your character's fan-groups.

Sissi is without a doubt, one of my favourite Code: Lyoko characters (though first place goes to a certain Oddball) and most of it is due to the wonderful performance you give, as well as Sissi's potential as a character.

Thank you so much! And I agree Sissi's character has great potentiial, some of which is developed in season 2.

Reading what you say about the dubbing process for Code: Lyoko is pretty fascinating - you all get together in a single studio am I right? And then read off an on-screen projection.

Yes, that's right.

Sorry to babble but VA is a subject I'm quite interested in - I know that in the US and Canada voices are mainly recorded individually, with the actors often never meeting, so the French 'communal' method has a great sense of camararderie from what I've read, and is probably why the on-screen dynamic is so alive. That comment about you and the whole gang going out for meals together gives me a warm feeling in my heart.

Yes, it's much better actually responding to real people than just acting in a vacuum. We've all been good friends for a long time, so the work atmosphere is generally one of relaxed fun. And do I love French lunches!

Speaking of food and having recently come back to Britain from visiting France, what is your favourite kind of meal when ordering. 'Plat d'jour'?

Depends on what the plat du jour is. We go to a fantastic place just around the corner from the studio and I always get their plat du jour since it's always delicious.

Do you visit France alot?

Extending that a bit further, are you an American living in France (like Matt Geczy) or a French national who speaks really good English.

Hi Becky! I feel great when I'm playing Sissi and it's not difficult at all. She's lots of fun. Her motivations are very clear. She says exactly what she feels, unless she's trying to get something out of her dad. I guess if I had to play a different role it would be Odd. What a great character! But Matthew is so perfect for the role, I'd much rather he did it. And I'm getting on fine these days, thanks for asking. It's VERY hectic, but I'll have some time to rest in the middle of October.
