So, basically, sometime last week I dragged my friend out of this club he hangs out at during lunch so he could find a girl he likes because he's been complaining about not having a girlfriend for a while. He walks around, and eventually sees a girl he's interested in. The next day, he informs me of it. I then get him over to near where the girl and her friend hang out at lunch, and he ends up standing about 20 feet away from where they are for the majority of the break. I keep telling him to just go up to her and say "Hi, how are you?" and introduce himself. He keeps going to other people saying he needs their help. Eventually he ends up sitting about 5 feet away from them. At this point, I can only assume they're really confused. The bell rings and he gets up. I push him over to them after instructing him of what he should do.
He kneels down, says something that wasn't what he was supposed to, and they say he should go to class.
Next day. It takes a shorter time to get him over there. He says "Can I ask you something?" to the girl, she says no and he just walks off and gives up.
So, basically, on his behalf I'm asking what he should do.
By the way, he isn't even sure what this girl's name is. He knows what her friend's name is, but not the girl he's interested in.

Getting a girl is just something he has to find out how to do. First thing though is that he needs to break out of his shell. Tell him to go for it, and the worst that she can say is no. If you can succeed in doing that, then he's fine
