A little rant about Autism

As you may or may not know, I have what is know as an autistic spectrum disorder, a form of autism that contains Asperger's, which I am one of the sufferers. I don't like it when people call me dumb or stupid because they have seen low-IQ autistic people...and I don't like it when people tend to relate to me as "mentally retarded"! I am not! I have a friggin' IQ of 130 (106 on a Web test) and I excel with probably one failing grade in my classes!

That's all...now, who else is autistic here?

Yeah, people somethmes forget Autism is a spectrum, with the genius wallflowers on one side and the low IQ people who twirl around in circles on another.

I'm Slightly Autistic (AS, which is on the highest spectrum), just enought to let me make up words like Spindango Fundulation an use them regularily and not care.

I dunno if I am or not. Teh doctors say I have ADHD, which I'm pretty sure is something else, but...not to call myself a hypochondriac, but some of that stuff fits me. Exactly. 0_0

I have a friend who is mildly autistic, but she functions quite normally. She comes to me for help and advice, maybe because I am one of the few friends who actually understands her feelings and stuff. I dont have it, or at least not that I know of.

Oldie songs rock, most oldies songs have more beat than today's. Eh, well most of 'em, anyway. I'm really into instrumental/piano type stuff.

My family has, for some reason, several autistic children in it. The clostest member I'm close to is my little Cousin, Timmy. He's 12, and has Autism. He's very withdrawn, and doesn't deal well with large noises or lots of people. However, over the past few years, in the few times a year I've seen him, he's always said hi to me, (with my name. He doesn't do that for anyone...) And always says goodbye to me when I go back home. On top of that, he's a genius with computers and videogames, and is able to change controls, from joystick to keyboard to controller very easily, and seamlessly. On top of that, over the past few years, he's developed on his own, to the point where he has a weak form of autism.

But I really think it needs to be expanded out on more. It's not really all that understood yet.

Isn't ADD a form of Autism?
I was born 3 months early, so I've been diagnosed with ADD and autism. In elementary school and middle school, I got called "handicapped" and "retarded" all because I couldn't run right, do math, or speak properly - I stutter. I can't even tie my Shoes. SRSLY.
It's sad, really.....

Yeah, I've been diagnosed with excessive ADHD, but everyone around me is convinced I grew out of it, which I haven't. So even though I have a high IQ, I have a lot of trouble concentrating, difficultly interpretating non-specific instructions, and a few other stuff. But since noone thinks I have ADHD anymore, I get blamed for being lazy and stuff. And I don't get medication or anything to improve my condition. >_>

And... then there's that knee disorder and my flat feet that make it hard to keep my balance and run for long amounts of times. =/

I think It's something else. And for the shoe thing, It took me YEARS to figure laces out. Nowadays I just get those springy laces you don't need to tie.

@Kamekai: Isn't it a Miracle how some people can have trouble concentrating, but yet they can be really smart? I've got hard time doing math and I can't really concentrate(I also talk to myself), but I possess an incredible Memory. I'm extememly smart~
I think it's called "Savant Syndrome".......Like that Movie! Rain Man!

Kick-***, I have a form of of ADD as well, I am quite intelligent, but I can't focus on my schoolwork, but an advantage of ADD is the ability to "superfocus" on topics I'm interested in, and notice details before anyone else.

You know, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I was autistic, or had Asperger's, I've just never been tested or been able to be tested. I was tested for ADHD a while back (and failed, although that doesn't really mean anything, it was just one test) but it's already been said that's a whole other can 'o worms xD

I've been thinking about finding somewhere to get a retroactive diagnosis, though. It might be too late to really do anything about it; I mean, I'm 23 since today~ now, and normally these kinda things get pointed out in your early childhood. But I'd at least know if I had it or not, and it'd be nice to have that at least *nods*

I have ADD, and it is a handycap. I don't know if it's linked to autism or not, but I understand how you feel. It sucks when you really want to do stuff on your own, but you KNOW that no matter how hard you try, you need help. I like being independent, so when I found out that my ADD makes me dependent for other people to help me (namely my parents, who I just wish would leave me alone), it made me mad. But I'm ok now, for the most part. I just hate being a burden on other people, such as the two people who I see a siblings.
Sorry for whining. ^^; Anyway, if you need someone to talk to, I'm here. (when I'm not working or fighting with my online classes....)

lol, I'm the exact opposite when it comes to math & memory. But that talking to one's self... I think we're all guilty.
