Suggestions for sports? >_>;

Postby Lani » Sat Mar 04, 2006 11:56 pm

Yeah, so where to begin...

Hm, well, I've been playing soccer for almost as long as I can remember, and I've also beein playing violin for as long as I can remember. This never before has been a problem, but recently, I've not been able to play with my team all that often because of the scheduling of the games and practices. And it makes me SO mad that they just had to schedule the soccer pratices the same time as my violin lessons, and the league I'm in plays on Saturday mornings, same time as my orchestra rehearsals ><;; So basically all this year I've been sitting on my lazy butt moving my left hand fingers and waving my right arm wildly in the air.

Although last year this wasn't as much as a problem, it was still present, so I went out for kendo. Lucky for me, though, I was studying something that involved lots and lots of bow movement on the violin, as well as waving my arms wildly in kendo... what did this result in? Well, now I've got tendonitis in my right arm, and I don't think tendonitis heals... If it does, well, it hasn't yet xD;

But ever since I quit kendo because of my injury, I still don't have any sports to go after (besides the occasional soccer game). I've been interested in naginata for a while now, and I'd love to do it, but it does involve arm movement and I'm not sure how intense it is. I'd also like to do track, since I'm a pretty good runner, but I wouldn't be able to do it this year, because it's a matter of scheduling (my school ends later than others so I have to have my last class free so I can take a bus over to another school). Speedskating has been recommended countless times by my mom, and it actually doesn't sound all that bad... I also used to take horseback riding, but the place where I used to ride closed down, and we still haven't found a place to go yet. It's also expensive...

Sorry about such the long intro, but you guys are a diverse bunch... Any suggestions for things I can take up at the age of 15 and not seem like a really old n00b? :x I don't mind being around adults, but I can't stand to start something and everyone in my class is like five, and literally... I feel like a dork xD;

Oh yeah, and nothing like swimming or diving and stuff... I'm kinda hydrophobic.

So... help? xD;;;;

Um.. sorry, I can't help you there. ^^; (Because, like I said, I'm like the least athletically-inclined boy EVER lol)

Kendo, eh? Cool. I've always thought I should try a martial art or something, since I believe team sports are the devil and I suck at most other things lol (although I'm not exactly in the best of shape right now because I do nothing but sit around and like... walk around the mall and school.. lol)

IT'S NOT MY FAULT THE SPORTS GODS DECIDED TO MAKE ME SUCK! ;__;

*cough*

But this thread is about your problems. Sorry. ^^;

Well, what can I say? If you can't use your arm, then there's a real problem. Despite that, I would recomend karate, because there is always a n00b class. I like karate, only because I hate jyms, and, well, recent events have alerted me that my known knowledge is enough self defence. : \

If that isn't an option, then I don't know of anything else to recomend.

Hmmm...how about Fencing? You definitely would not be in a class of 5 year olds there, most likely. And you've done Kendo so Fencing should be right up your alley. :)

@YDV: xDD; It's okay. Thanks for the concern though!

@Tony: I've been wanting to take up karate again for the longest time xD; I actually wouldn't mind trying it again...my arm shouldn't be a problem :O

@ Mewberries: xD; I'd love to take fencing, but unless I'm suddenly left-handed I'm not sure >>; Thanks anyway~ ^_^

I take, no used to take, fencing (sabre to be exact) and I mean it doesn't REALLY matter what hand you normally use....I mean if you're right handed, I'm sure you can master fencing with the left hand, and it's not that intense with the arms...(unless your opponent is a whacko....)

That's very true! In fact...you'd probably have an advantage if you were to learn how to fight left-handed. That throws alot of people off because they're used to fighting with right-handed people. It's much like in baseball when you're up against a left-handed batter/pitcher. ^^

Either way though, you're welcome. ^_^

@dd and Mew: xD Seriously? Okay, I'll look into fencing and see what I can do about it :3 It's pretty common in my area too....

@Jeremie Lover: I already play an instrument, two in fact :O Plus... I can't really join a band... I'm already in my school's orchestra, an area full orchestra, a quartet, and everything else is solo work xD;; Thanks anyway!

@Odd22: xD; RPGs aren't much exercise, but yes they're fun anyway! I play the "Tales of" series... they're SO underrated over here in the US D: (third most popular RPG series in Japan, though, closely behind Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest)

well I say that if sports don't come easy don't do them but if you really want to do a sport I reccomend paintpall, kuk sul do or some strange combination of the two

P.S. if you're going to play an RPG play the original (and best), my favorite game in the world, Dungeons & Dragons (and if you're short on friends D&D will fix that too, although the friends will be geeks, so be cautious)
A lot of member have sigs that say"I'm a boy", or "I'm a girl", I refuse to join this trend.
