Okay so in school my class is making Ethernet cables due it being the career my class is going into. Anyway we were about to make them and our teacher to grab some of the yellow shielded cable, we did and we opened it up to have it be cat 6 cable, man that stuff was stupid trying to work around the hard plastic center! Who else has messed with using cat 6 cables? I know how to strip them and make them into usable cables but that stuff was stupid. So who has made cables with it and who also hates it?

matsumo hates terminating Ethernet cables. And I agree, they are a b!tch.

Tell me if I'm right on the order (completely from memory)

My first time, I pulled too hard when stripping the cable and hit myself in the face with the crimper. The person I was with nearly died laughing, and I had a red spot between my eyes for a few days.

Oh yeah I've had my fair share of CAT 6 cable manipulating during my network admin days.
The most painful thing, however was making them only inches short and then figuring out via the tester that you missed a connection or got one wrong.

Cat5e and Cat6 are "fun" to make. Not really, but yea they are a pain to make at times. I have to know how to do it for the certification I want to get (CCNA).

Just happen to see this, funny story.

Sitting at work and my boss gets a call from one of his friends so he puts on speaker.

Bosses Friend, "Dude I Keep having to remake this **** Cat6 cables"
Boss, "Why?"
Bosses Friend, "The mice keep chewing threw them!"
Boss, "Well you know why right?"
Bosses Friend, "Why?"
Boss, "Because the Inner core taste like cheese."

They talk back and forth for a bit and the call ends.

About 20 minutes later his phone rings again, its his friend again.

Bosses Friend, "You Son of a *****"
Boss, "What's Wrong"
Bosses Friend, "Those cables DO NOT taste like cheese, and they really don't taste good when there is a 24 volt POE (Power Over Ethernet) device on the other end"

He had took the cut cable and licked it while there was a 24 volt POE injector on the other end (these devices send 24 volts threw the Cat 6 Cable to power devices). Apparently it knocked him off a ladder.

The lesson is know where every cable is plugged up to before touching anything! :*D
