How to I kill of "Gapless Playback" crap on iTunes

Postby Rho » Mon Dec 14, 2009 2:38 am

I'm simply trying to sync my iPod at this point, and it won't because whenever iTunes opens, it does some stupid crap called "Determining Gapless Playback Information" which then proceeds to freeze up the computer. I've read that you can disable it by clicking the x and then turning it off in preferences, but it freezes before I can even click the x. What do I do?

I don't know what OS you're running, for one. And why for god's sake are you using iTunes in the first place?

Sounds like a corrupted plist file.
First, back up any iTunes-specific information, like playlists. Song information does not need to be backed up, because that is stored in the song file itself. Go into File --> Export, and there should be an option to export the playlists.
Next, go into your Home folder, and open up the library. Go into "Preferences", and delete any files that have com.apple.iTunes.***.plist in the file name. What this does is, for lack of better words, resets iTunes.
Start up iTunes again, and click through all of the Welcome windows. If you don't see any of your songs, kill iTunes and go to your Music folder. Open up the folder named iTunes, and double click on the file called "iTunes Library". This should restore all of your music. Import your playlists, and that should do it!
Now, this also resets information about synchronized iPods. Make sure that everything is backed up on your computer, and restore the iPod (erase it). Then, restore all of your music and videos to it.

Of course, this method is a little risky, so make a Time Machine backup beforehand. But otherwise, it should fix your problem/.
I really gotta fix up this theme
