I just downloaded a free operating system from Sun Microsystems, the same guys who make Java. I ran it as a virtual machine and the installation of the OS into the VM file was a success, but I also need to install a driver pack made specifically for virtual machines. However, I can't install it from the GNOME GUI, and when I try to log in as the root user, it says the user does not exist. However, I am the only user of the VM, and there should be a root user. Also, it says I need to have superuser access in order to do this, but it isn't working.
HELP!
I really gotta fix up this theme

Is that a Linux distro?

I don't remember.

Solaris is a Unix-y system, but not Linux.

Just to be clear, you need to install the drivers on your real system, correct? Did they give you any directions on doing that? Say, a command line?
(yeah, the cool links in my old sig died. :( A few nerdy newish projects are here. )

No
They didn't.
All I have to do is learn how to log in as the root user, and then I can take over from there. When I try to log in from the GUI, it says that this user has been disabled by the admin, but I am the admin, and when I look through the user lists, it doesn't display.
I'll try to get a screenshot whenever possible.

You're on a Linux system?

Try "sudo bash" to get a shell with root privileges. It'll ask for your own password.

Once I get on my virtual machine of it, I'll try that command.

EDIT: Nope, close, but no cigar.
