Guys, how can I get MP3 files (downloaded from the internet) onto my iPod Nano?
I've always been wondering this.

Can anyone help me?

You'll be needing to use iTunes.

If you are using a Macintosh, you should have it on your HD. If you're running Windows, open up google and search for "Windows iTunes" and download what seems the most right.

If you have further trouble, look up "How to put songs on my iPod with iTunes" on google as well.

iPods are not open-source like MP3 players are. It requires hacking to simply put crap into it without going through the process that it's a real song that you bought on iTunes or whatever.

At least, that's how it is on Macintosh computers. The Windows version, I'm not so sure.

Take a look over @ www.apple.com for more information on Apple software.

There's this thing that says "Copy to Portable Device".
Will that work?

Yes, you have to download iTunes and import them into your iPod, then transfer them in. While hacking is possible, it'll void any warranty if it ever breaks.

What happens if I delete my file from Windows Media Player? Will the iTunes/iPod file go away, too?

Ok, as an experienced iTunes master (not quite), I know what you need to do.
First, download iTunes onto your computer. As it was said, if you own a Mac, it's already on the HD, and if it's a PC, not quite. To download it to your computer, click here. Download to disk, install, and run. Agree to the license agreements, and run.
Then, import your music to the iTunes library. Go to File, Import, and select all of the files of music you want to put into ur library. Click OK, and it will create a copy of those music files in your iTunes library. It doesn't matter whether the files are downloaded off of Limewire or some other place, so you don't have to worry.
Then, plug your iPod into the computer. Give Windows a minute to identify the iPod, and then it will appear in iTunes. I assume the computer you are using is also the computer which places the music onto the iPod, so it shouldn't ask whether you want to erase your current library to use with the new computer. However, if this is not the case, then there are programs which can back up the iPod's music to a computer. I know of Senuti for Macs, but I'm not so sure about PC programs.
After the computer has identified the iPod, and it shows up in iTunes, copying music and other media to it is as simple as dragging-and-dropping. After all of the desired music is on the iPod, eject it by hitting the little button in the sidebar, wait a second, and once it disappears, remove it from the computer and enjoy the music.
Hope this helps!
I really gotta fix up this theme

MP4s are videos, not audio. For audio, Apple prefers AAC, which gives better sound than MP3 but isn't as widespread. They'll play MP3s, though- it'd take an idiot to make a portable audio player that couldn't.
(yeah, the cool links in my old sig died. :( A few nerdy newish projects are here. )

No. Apple supports mp3, mp4, m4p, aac, wma, and a bunch of other crap.

No digital media player supports FLAC yet. That's why we have converters. I needed one for a Chumbawamba album.

I believe you meant portable media players?

Sweet, another Rockboxer... iPod 30GB 5G Video here. The first iPod I got was modded within a month, so, yeah. :D (Hopefully getting a Sansa soon ^^)

Rockbox Codecs list, FLAC section wrote:A new decoder based on the ffmpeg FLAC decoder was committed on 26 October 2005, replacing the previous libFLAC based implementation. This decoder has now been optimised for use in Rockbox and tests have shown that it decodes faster than realtime with the iriver's processor clocked at a constant 34MHz. Seeking is now fully implemented using routines adapted from libFLAC.

Finally, back on topic:
thousand-mistress wrote:What happens if I delete my file from Windows Media Player? Will the iTunes/iPod file go away, too?

I don't think so, unless you have it set to synchronize those changes. I believe deleting it from WMP's library just removes the link from the library, not the actual song. I could be wrong though; know where all your music is kept! ^^
